Before I left The @latimes in March, a Times friend told me 'Your next job shouldn't be the job you've always had.' Wise words! And affirmation of a decision I'd already made: After a long career at two great places to be a journalist, it was time for something different 🧵

If there was a Mount Rushmore of ball writers, Ross Newhan would be on it. He was a giant in the biz, a Hall-of-Famer who spent much of his 43-year career covering @MLB for the LA Times. He was a mentor to myself and so many others, a friend to all. Ross died today at 89. RIP💔

I used to be jealous of Dua Lipa until I learned she had her first hot dog ever last night. Now I know I am richer than her in ways she can’t even imagine.
I got to tell you. She is super nice. Just married. Abd i wished her 50 years of happiness. Plus was her 1st baseball game and 1st hotdog ever. Special night

My newsletter for @OffBall_News today is NFL position groups as Jungian archetypes. Why, you might ask? I don't know! Because sometimes I gotta do stuff like that. Read and subscribe below.

For my Los Angeles Clippers followers This has been a very difficult time for everybody associated with the Clippers, and for that, I have sincere regrets. I want to apologize to our fans, employees, and my fellow NBA team owners for the distraction and distress this matter has caused, for which I accept responsibility as principal owner. We are committing to put this chapter behind us. We have communicated to the NBA that we are complying with the penalties assessed by the league, have paid the fine, and are moving forward. While there are still disagreements concerning the findings in the report, this is not where I want to focus. Team owners should support, not distract. The challenges ahead of us are significant, but so is our resolve. We will continue to build our team and invest in our community. The confidence of our fans is our priority. With our talented roster, outstanding staff and clear vision, I am certain that we will compete at the highest level and be an organization our fans can be proud of.

RIP Walpole Joe, you were the manager of this nine.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Red Sox Hall of Famer and former manager Joe Morgan. He was a truly beloved fixture of the Red Sox, spending nearly two decades with the organization. We send our love to the Morgan family.

Peter King was one of the most influential NFL reporters in history. This book will be excellent. Beyond that: I had the fortune of working with him as a contributor for his first two years of The MMQB — one of the smartest projects SI greenlit during my time there. He was an incredibly supportive manager and I got to do some really cool stuff. But what really impressed me was how invested he was in the young people he brought on staff (Emily Kaplan and Kalyn Kahler are two of many examples). The dude used his sports journalism fame to create meaningful and paid sports editorial jobs for others. That's a legacy.
My new book, The Game, is a memoir of my 40 years covering the NFL. It comes out Oct. 13 and is available to pre-order here: tr.ee/TheGamePKX

I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.

Coming Sunday in the LA Times. Looking back on 50 memorable moments in 50 years covering high school sports in Southern California. I could have done 200. Enjoy the memories.

For @esquire, I wrote about losing a dream job earlier this year in the same month our daughter arrived. About the fear and anxiety of it all. And about the clarity on the other side: esquire.com/lifestyle/money/…
