Our paper about the mystery’s of the endemic microbes living within an endemic host is now published. Telling the interesting story of the endemic microbes living in the gut of the only aquatic iguana in the world, endemic to the Galápagos Islands.

Beautiful new work by the @ThePopeLab uncovering metabolic effects of rumen Protozoa.
Protozoa can be 🔺50% of the microbial biomass in the rumen and have big influence on digestion and H2 production (leading to methane). BUT they are HARD to study, especially in vivo! @andersen__thea adds her PhD piece to the puzzle in @ISMEJournal nature.com/articles/s41396-0…… 1/6

In today's date, ~1.7 million bacterial genomes are being hosted in NCBI.
Salmonella Enterica and Escherichia Coli represent around 40% of those genomes.
Considering only the species that make 1% or more , we have 12 bacteria summing to ~64% of all bacterial genomes.
It turns out that genes of gut microbes are being horizontally transferred from mothers to babies month after birth. Insightful paper by @TheXavierLab
