Colin Ferguson is officially the new leader of Newcastle City Council. Gosforth councillor leads a new Lib Dem minority administration, confirmed at council AGM this afternoon. Comes after 'stability and co-operation' agreement to secure support from the Greens.

An interesting read
The calm after the storm. I, like everyone else who has spent the last 10 hours at Newcastle’s election count, am utterly knackered. A truly extraordinary day and there are still huge questions about who runs the city now.

We are disappointed to see that @NewcastleCC is closing the cafes in Paddy Freemans park and Exhibition park. The state of the play area in Ex Patk is poor and now to lose the cafe is more than disappointing. What are your views @NewcastleLibDem ?

@parkrunUK has a big turn out each week on the Town a moor and the exhibition cafe is a focal point on Saturdays for ParkRunners to meet up afterwards. This really poor from @NewcastleCC who we thought encouraged use of our lovely parks. A real backward step.

The first of the runners and riders for the forthcoming @NewcastleCC by election for South Jesmond.
Fantastic turn out for Dr Sarah Peters’ South Jesmond by-election campaign launch tonight. Lots of excitement about our authentic, passionate, hard working candidate who lives in the heart of Sandyford. DM us to get involved! #SouthJesmond #RealHopeRealChange

Great event on Saturday on the Town Moor. But sad to see the litter and smashed glass all over the Moor with bags of rubbish still there. Hope this will be gone asap @NewcastleCC

The city is set to be extremely busy on Saturday as people gather for Newcastle United's Carabao Cup celebrations. Routes in and out of the city are expected to be very busy. If you are coming into our hospitals, please plan ahead and allow more time for your journey.

This is the reality on the roads sacrificed for LTNs. This is why we fight them. Don't tell us this is anything but a residential road.
Yesterday for over 4 hours LTN advocates celebrated the harming of our community calling this a success. They did not ask us if they could INCREASE harm upon us … They did not care about harming children here for personal pleasure. Intentionally increasing congestion upon us to teach us a lesson while enjoying a quiet road to live on … Listening to advocates trying to justify killing us slowly is sickening…. Not one advocate asked us if we supported being killed for LTN advocates comfort and pleasure… YES I DO MIND BEING KILLED SLOWLY
