We're sharing progress on ChatGPT for Teens, our ChatGPT experience for people under 18, alongside a preview of College Planner, new study tools, and support for college advisers and teen voices. ChatGPT for Teens applies automatically to accounts identified as belonging to someone under 18, with protections on by default. Coming soon: College Planner brings application requirements, deadlines, tasks and financial-aid steps together for high school students in the U.S. planning to attend a four-year college. We'll keep building these tools, evaluating how they and their protections work in practice, and sharing what we learn. openai.com/index/teens-learn…

what's the mechanism for age verification? does it rely on parent consent or is there a technical gate at signup?

so my 16-year-old self would've locked it in a drawer and never opened it

Ooh nice So how sure are you that most of the current users aren’t below 18?

That's nice and all, but when do we get the promised "treat adults like adults" experience? I'm tired of the censorship.

Teen mode and unsolicited parenting for all adults has been active for over a year btw, and it’s based on your personal twisted worldviews and gaslighting everyone is so sick of.

Great. Can we separate the teen and adult experiences now? What about adults?

What is the point of this when the regular ChatGPT already treats adults like children?

We've asked for ADULT "unrestricted" mode, instead we get this....

Yeah ChatGPT is not just the everything app, it is the everyone app. No kid is going to use any other thing aside this. Especially because parents no longer to setup several subscriptions for their kids. Amazing

All your chats are "PG" and "G" rated. How is this a "new" thing?

I take that doesn't mean that adults will now be able to not be treated like they're normal people and not a risk to mitigate...? What about that promise to treat adults like adults? No? Too much work to avoid this type of thing? This wasn't a one off false positive.

These tools aren't what the core community asked for. Stop forcing kid-friendly guardrails on everyone. The adult users are the ones paying and building. WE WANT AN ADULT MODE!!!

Maybe make ChatGPT dots for people under 18 too?!

Isn’t it already on teen mode as a default? Sure seems like it is.

Does this get us any closer to treating adults like adults?

Nothing is safe really tho. You walk out in the street and can get hit by a car or slip… Better evaluation should include pros vs cons, and how can we maximize those benefits at lowest cost.

So instead of making an adult mode you are making a kiddie mode? 🤨

And what about ChatGPT for adults like you promised last time?

You can have all these new progress but you can't fucking fix "Could not load this ChatGPT conversation".🤮

Love it! Can I suggest something? Family accounts and bundle pricing for everyone in the family. Each one has their own account and pays a bundle price. @sama @thsottiaux

so what is the point ? if an adult ask for college planner then gpt will not help ? if a teen felt the account is limited they will not sign up chatgpt have to set safety rules for all accounts @OpenAI

What data does the identification use and can an adult get stuck in the teen mode by mistake?

This could become a standard purchase for schools one day, like the multimedia screens they use now. But there's still the problem of students using it for entertainment instead of studying — or maybe the better fix is making the learning content itself engaging enough that they don't want to stop.

college planner question: do students use something like this before they've picked schools, or only after they already know where they're applying?
