Western philosophy uses a nice turn of phrase. What is mind? Doesn’t matter. What is matter? Never mind! Humour aside, the idea of the mind is connected with consciousness as in conscious, subconscious and unconscious mind.
Eastern philosophies prompt us to Think deeper. Seek within.
According to Hinduism’s Vedānta philosophy, ‘within’ refers to the Antaḥ-karaṇa, Sanskrit for Inner instruments.
Antaḥkaraṇa contains Chitta (awareness, consciousness), Buddhi (intellect), Manas (mind as field of thoughts), and Ahaṁkāra (ego). All loosely translated since there is no single English equivalent.
One needs to tap into the Buddhi to harness the capacity for dispassionate analysis, discernment, and to seek the truth about what we experience via our senses.
It is this intellect that overcomes the agitation of the mind and the distortion of the ego to ask the right questions and come up with answers and solutions.
The Guru empowers us with this knowledge and puts us on the path, to dispel our ignorance.

Q:Am I greedy?
A: Vedānta Principles:
Puruṣārtha
Dharma
Puruṣārtha provides a framework for Life’s purpose i.e. Dharma, Artha, Kāma, and Mokṣa.
Greed manifests when Artha (material) and Kāma (pleasure-seeking) impulses dictate our actions without the guiding principle of Dharma.
Dharma is a multi-dimensional idea that upholds and nurtures the individual essence of all things. It includes Ethics, Duty and behavioral facets relevant to each being.
In this context, Dharma is the balancing force to limit and shape our desires.
Begin by becoming aware of Dharma as a super power!
