I wrote about the way social media and advertising affects our idealized self-concept, and why it's a losing game:

Don't forget to vote in the delegate election, AOC is on the ballot (and if you're in North Brooklyn so am I!)
AOC is on the ballot when you vote for NYC-DSA delegate. Vote the Socialist Must Lead slate #1 by Sunday Oct 25th at 11:59 pm to ensure DSA is laying the groundwork for an AOC presidential campaign!
It's infantilizing white women, but in this case it's because she self-infantilizes. Her whole MO is essentially partnering with men who help her maintain ignorance of the dirty work so she can remain the wide-eyed, naive, genius woman-child. She chooses not to know.
Every high profile story about a woman involved in conspiracy with a romantic partner provokes this question of whether it's more sexist to blame everything on the woman or to forclose culpability, forcing everything into "she's an evil master manipulator" or "she's just a girl"
I think we need to understand this kind of thing as a failure to accept their own natural limitations. They want to be the kind of obviously hot man who can effortlessly get any woman. It's equivalent to a pretty, but normal-looking woman never getting over not being a model.
Hey it's cool you're trying to push back on unhealthy beauty standards, but it would be a lot more effective if you just said she looks hot and left it at that

I understand Carrie (2026) is not very good, that's not surprising to me. But I won't stand for Carrie (2013) revisionism. It was a bad remake too! It was widely panned! Most movies in the early 2010s were bad! – at Inwood, NY

Spent a few weeks earlier this year roaming a Hollywood almost entirely reoriented around the production of “microdramas,” which are kind of like soap operas except they’re short and completely demented and optimized for your phone. Started as one kind of sad story and ended as another, differently sad kind of story. You can read it now in @NYTmag nytimes.com/2026/10/06/magaz…
I was so surprised to hear someone say after THOC that the "bit" about the guy in the band and his recently deceased girlfriend went on too long. What bit! I was crying! – at Manhattan, NY
It sometimes feels like this is already how people talk

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
I really liked Obsession and think some critics overestimate the number of people who came away seeing Bear as the good guy. That said the visual language of the film does fix the viewer in Bear's perspective, and horror in general tends to linger on mutilated women's bodies. – at Brooklyn, NY
Some men are obsessed with a narrative that women turn normal sexual encounters into SA in their minds due to regret. In reality all trauma is only understood retrospectively. Something new and terrible happens to you and it affects your world before you have language for it – at Jersey City, NJ
