I'm not a big debate guy, but I watched the debate between James White and Craig Truglia. Craig performed masterfully. It seems to me evident (which is strange, as White has traditionally prepared thoroughly for these debates) that White simply was not prepared for or aware of the mass of material that Craig presented in his opening speech. By White's second rebuttal, he's just all over the place, sometimes veering way off topic. Craig also showed himself to be a skilled debater. Some of James White's post-debate commentary is bizarre, complaining about how Orthrobro culture is treating him, which just puts into sharp relief the fact that Craig manifestly was not an exemplar of this bad behavior. Craig treated JW with respect throughout, but JW seems to have been prepared for a different debate, and right down to his closing speech he was trying to argue with what he thought Craig would say rather than what he actually said. Bravo, @Craig_Truglia!

Jesus Christ is inseparable from His Church. The saints are inseparable from Christ because He has grafted them in, so you have a conundrum. Asking someone to pray for you does not take away glory from Christ; the saints lay their crowns at His feet.

Perhaps you should read about the Orthodox Saints over 2,000 years and tell me what part of their lives doesn't reflect the ideal picture of Christ's embodiment, even through your paradigm? I was in the reform church for 20 years, I have that perspective. Pursue Truth, Christ ☦️
Even though you’re about a year late responding, I’m happy to answer.
Calling this a “man-made gospel” does not address the Scriptures I cited. You are essentially saying that Christians coming out of the Reformation who put their full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and submit their beliefs to God’s Word are following a man-made religion. That is a pretty serious claim, and quite frankly, a weak one. It needs more support than saying this interpretation appeared at the Reformation.
Plus, Galatians 5:6 does not contradict justification by faith. Paul says what matters is “faith working through love.” He does not say love or works become the basis of our justification. The same Paul says, “a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ” (Galatians 2:16), “to the one who does not work but believes…his faith is counted as righteousness” (Romans 4:5), and that salvation is “not a result of works” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Then he immediately explains that believers are created for good works (Ephesians 2:10). That is exactly the distinction I made: works are the fruit of genuine faith, not the price of salvation.
So if you believe I have taken those passages out of context, show specifically how. Simply labeling them “select Scriptures” or saying the Reformation got them wrong does not answer what the texts actually say.
I respect that we disagree, but my encouragement remains the same. Put your complete trust in Christ, stay in His Word, and test every teaching, mine included, against Scripture. God bless.
