We sure did…..
When every second mattered, the waterways became an evacuation route unlike any in history.
On 9/11, the U.S. Coast Guard helped coordinate the largest maritime evacuation in American history, working alongside the crews of ferries, tugboats, dinner cruises, and private vessels to bring nearly half a million people to safety.
Today, on the U.S. Coast Guard's birthday, we honor more than two centuries of service and remember the courage, leadership, and resolve Coast Guard members demonstrated when New York needed them most.
Happy Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard, and thank you for your service.
