We here show that Group A Strep infections trigger profound changes in the transcriptome of microglia and BECs. Distinct Th17-derived cytokines have shared and unique effects on these cells. Microglia activate many cytokines that are also found elevated in patients with PANDAS.

The @BBCNews coverage of #GroupAStrep is helpful: but what's really important is to educate about the associated risk of #sepsis as that's what endangers lives! Most of us have these bugs somewhere on us, it's when it becomes invasive we worry!
