🧵From the very beginning of the #harmreduction movement, people - mainly people who used/use drugs - kept each other safe & alive, despite the criminalization of life-saving resources & support. That continues today. More from @anitachabria of @latimes: bit.ly/IOAD23CivilDisobedien…

People use drugs for all types of reasons, & it’s important we use the term “substance use disorder” only when referring to a diagnosis. Each individual knows their own needs best, as harm reductionists-& people-we can’t lose sight of that. @Filtermag_org bit.ly/NotAllUseRootedInTrau…

Replying to @Narcan_Nate
@Narcan_Nate is a wealth of information and should be treated as such by local gov agencies. People from all walks of life are dying and this resource is saving lives. Thanks, Nate and @PATHNarcan cc: @ShannonNews8

Watching @CNN and @andersoncooper talking about the overdose crisis. They are talking about two tragic cases of young people who died of overdose with their grieving family members. Both overdoses were with counterfeit pills. (1/?)

As a social worker, I wonder what might have happened in this young girl's life long before she ever tried a pill. Her circumstances sound tragically similar to the teen who OD'ed; both kids were living with their grandmas. How can we say there was only one victim here?

Powerful new study and analysis from @JosephRFriedman, Helena Hansen, & Joseph Gone - The popular but flawed "Deaths of Despair" hypothesis of increased white mortality rates was supported for one reason- data on Indigenous people was excluded. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Anyone else notice how the vocal anti-harm reduction folks who claim to be "pro-treatment" aren't celebrating the end of the X waiver & aren't rallying to comment on the lifesaving benefits of the potential rule changes to expand access to methadone? What's that about?

Do you support non-prescription access to naloxone (the opioid overdose reversal medication)? Do you think naloxone should be available over-the-counter? If so, the FDA wants to hear from you by 11:59pm EST January 17th! federalregister.gov/document…

For local businesses that don't know what types of services are available to the unsheltered community in @thinkchulavista and the larger South Bay, here are services at CTH (located at 465 C. Street) that unsheltered community members can access.

Glad the NYT is boosting these bills. But they don't "end the war on drugs." 2 of the 3 increase access to healthcare and medical treatment for people who use drugs and formerly incarcerated people. Healthcare should be a human right. Period. nytimes.com/2022/12/12/opini…

It takes a lot to see through anger and grief to know that the drug war isn't helping anyone and to fight for sensible solutions. Grateful to be able to speak with Tamara Olt and Gretchen Bergman about parenting someone with substance use disorder. @salon salon.com/2022/11/26/their-c…

We need this! Also the statement from Mark Parrino is disgusting. Prime example of choosing profits over people. We see you and where you stand with that statement. statnews.com/2022/11/16/nora…
