Higher for longer - that was the core message in my discussion with @CNBC Squawk Box Europe this morning. Everyone is focused on the spot price of oil. But look further out: calendar 2027 Brent is holding around $97 a barrel. That’s close to $100 priced in for an entire year, not simply a short-term spike. That has implications for everything from industrial and agriculture production to transportation costs and inflation in the months ahead. Now look at energy equities. The Munificent 7 are hitting all-time highs as the back end of the oil curve approaches $100. This is looking increasingly structural, not transient. It's the Revenge of the Old Economy in action. The old economy is short-duration, asset-heavy and benefiting from higher commodity prices, whereas the new economy is long-duration, asset-light and increasingly exposed to higher interest rates and inflation. The irony in all this is that the old economy is fuelling the new economy. AI needs electricity, transformers, copper, high-voltage cables and critical minerals. None of that exists without the physical world. ‘Generalists’ in the market are beginning to recognise what specialists across the physical economy has been telling us for some time: higher for longer isn't just centred on bottlenecks and disruption to the flow of hydrocarbons out of the Strait of Hormuz. Instead, it’s a structural shift that is likely here to stay. We’re electrifying the world for many reasons, chief among them the so-called energy transition. The original driving force of the transition, led by the Carter administration, wasn’t the need to adopt clean energy with climate change in mind; it was driven by an urgent need for energy security in response to the oil shocks of the 1970s. We’re seeing a repeat today: the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and bottlenecks elsewhere, impacting our ability to source and transport hydrocarbons, is forcing states to turn to electrification. Great discussion with @cnbcKaren and Steve Sedgwick - thank you for having me on.

Dr. Abdul is one of the most qualified people to ever run for office. Few in Congress can match his credentials. They can’t compete with his platform, so they resort to racism and bigotry. He’s fighting not just Republicans but an entire media industrial complex that sees him as a threat to the status quo. In 7 days, he’ll prove them all wrong. 🔥

This is why an anti-imperialist left doesn’t exist in the United States. Yet they have the audacity to constantly complain about how Latin American governments aren’t left enough or doing enough. Bruh. Your heroes sell out every day and twice on Sunday & you have no one.

Brazil already has the most aggressive criminal anti-discrimination laws of any democracy in the world. It’s time it shows the way for democratic social media regulation too. Democracies can’t allow foreign authoritarian billionaires use these to intervene in their elections

I lived through Yeltsin, and Trump's behavior mirrors him so precisely it's disturbing. The same clownish performance. The same promises. The same destruction of a country while the leader talks nonsense and dances. Dear Americans, good luck.

Whoever said the 2028 Democratic presidential candidate should run on extraditing Zuckerberg to Lula’s Brazil deserves an award.
President Lula states that he will "go all out" against Meta, saying that Brazil will not accept a foreign company negatively influencing Brazilians and humanity with a "digital empire."

It’s deeply disrespectful to us Brazilians, who spent 20 days mobilizing across the country, standing up to Big Tech and imperialist forces, to credit our victory as a nation to an American billionaire who said absolutely nothing about our elections. Delete this shit, @Variety.

This is the American Protestor that just told Trump to “shove that ballroom up your fat ass” after yelling “release the Epstein files” at a rally in Mississippi. People are saying the way they started pointing at him looked like it was from the invasion of the body snatchers.

Here's somebody explaining how the economy works. Great journalist and broadcaster, by the way, Ross Ashcroft, RIP, interviewing me around 2015.
🚨Brilliant interview! 💸💰💸💰💸💰💸 🚨How do banks create money ? 💸💰💸💰💸💰💸 🚨Prof Werner is incomparable. In the 5000 yr history of banking no-one has ever done an imperical study of banking to show where the money comes from- until now. Step up the rock star economist Professor Richard Werner. His amazing qualifications and held positions makes the eye water. He is truly the authority on this subject. Banks are thought of as deposit taking entities who lend money - but that is just wrong. His assessment - Banks dont lend money but they misrepresent (lie) to their customers and say that they do.

JUST IN: SPANISH PM PEDRO SANCHEZ: “We are going to do the same thing Lula did in Brazil. Do you know why they all come to Spain in procession? Why does the far right look to Spain? Why does Milei come here? Why does Trump tweet? Why does Meloni come to Spain to support Abascal? Why does the far right gather here in Spain? Because we are living proof that hope is much more effective than hatred in moving societies forward.”
