Graduate student Addison Young is presenting research today at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center Research Retreat exploring a potential vulnerability in triple-negative breast cancer.
Working in the lab of Purdue Institute for Cancer Research (PICR) member Kyle Cottrell, Young is exploring whether disrupting PACT dimerization could reduce cancer cell viability — and point toward a potential therapeutic strategy.
Young's work reflects the vital role emerging scientists play in advancing cancer research and underscores why preparing the next generation of cancer researchers is central to the PICR's mission.
Congratulations to Young on the opportunity to share this work with the broader cancer research community!
So many of us have breast cancer stories. 💕
A friend diagnosed far too young. An aunt who rang the bell after her last treatment. A grandmother who didn't get the chance.
Over the past few decades, research has changed what diagnosis means for millions — and the next round of progress is being built in labs right now, including at the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research.
Research is the reason more of our stories end with survival. Help support research with the power to change outcomes: purdue.link/breast-cancer-su…

Never lose sight of the long game.
But celebrate every win along the way.
It's as true in the fight against cancer as it is on the field at Ross-Ade.

Cool moment. After a huge win, with the rain starting to fall on #HammerDownCancer night, @EthanTrent05 points up to the @rossadebrigade sheet sign honoring his brother, @theTylerTrent. 🚂
Our friend was looking down on us tonight. 🖤💛 @TonyTrent10 @BoilerFootball @PUCancerInst
We have a lot to cheer about tonight. 🏈
During tonight's #HammerDownCancer game, @PUCancerInst presented the Joe Tiller Chapter of the @NFFNetwork with an honorary game ball.
Since 2021, the chapter's annual golf outing has raised nearly $55,000 for the Tyler Trent Endowment, helping carry forward Tyler's legacy through cancer research at Purdue.
PICR Director Andrew Mesecar joined chapter Executive Director Travis Baugh and Awards and Fundraising Coordinator Jim Vruggink on the field for the presentation.
We're grateful to the Joe Tiller Chapter and everyone whose generosity has made the support possible.
Boiler Up. Hammer Down Cancer!

A special shoutout to the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega for their enthusiastic support of the fight against cancer and the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research!
Thank you for helping rally the Purdue community around a cause that is personal to so many of us 🎗️
Ahead of tonight's Purdue football game, Purdue Institute for Cancer Research Director Andrew Mesecar joined @AlanKarpick on Gold and Black LIVE to discuss how Hammer Down Cancer supports cancer research at Purdue — and the important role our Boilermaker community plays in the fight against cancer.

The Boilermaker spirit extends far beyond the field 🫶
Join us on Saturday night as we Hammer Down Cancer.
Some of the most important moments in research happen outside the lab.
Purdue faculty, students, trainees and staff are invited to join the cancer research community on Nov. 13 for the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research annual Cancer Research Day, featuring a keynote from Harvard Medical School professor Alex Toker, trainee research presentations, a scientific poster session and opportunities to connect with researchers from across #Purdue.
‼️ Trainees: Bring your work into the conversation. Submit an abstract for the poster session by Oct. 21. Three trainees will be selected for the Excellence in Trainee Research Award and invited to present their research during the program. purdue.link/cancer-research-…

🚨 A three-minute measurement could offer a faster look at the edges of brain tumors.
In research recently published in PNAS (@PNASNews), Purdue researchers and collaborators from the @MayoClinic have demonstrated a mass spectrometry approach that can help distinguish glioma from non-tumor brain tissue and reveal important molecular characteristics of the tumor. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.26…
The goal is to give surgeons information that isn't currently available during an operation and help guide decisions about tumor removal. #cancer
The study was led by former Purdue graduate student Mahdiyeh Shahi and @PUCancerInst member and the Henry Bohn Hass Distinguished Professor of Chemistry R. Graham Cooks.
Shahi is now a clinical chemistry postdoctoral fellow at @umnmedschool.
