We overestimated Russia. We underestimated Ukraine. For Russia, every day without victory is defeat. For Ukraine, every day without defeat is victory.

I was a heretic on B61. Spending on a gravity bomb LEP a decade+ ago seemed like gold bricks to drop on Russia. That was before F-35, B61-12 and B61-13. It also was during INF. Now, with 12 and 13 (not itself for TACAIR), B61 provides platform, yield and target flexibility.
Am not sure it's that simple. A NATO operation based on (but not limited to) F35A-B61Mod12 would probably have a high probability to reach targets in Russia. And US vs. Fr mission profiles are different.

gather, map and characterize electronic intelligence near Kaliningrad and over Ukraine. F-35 was even able to flag anomalies for S-300 and S-400 in WARM. Such ELINT can cue SEAD assets to tear a path through Russian AD. F-35 is never alone.

Old view that Russia only characterized B61 as a threat to negotiate it out as a symbol is dated. While in the past weapons that left Europe never returned, that’s clearly changing, with or without the US. And Russia still has 11 time zones to defend.

Helluva way to build confidence in rescuing the kids in Oleshky. I’ve every confidence that the First Lady got last pick for her appointees, from the pile nobody else would take, in +this+ administration. Kook.
Exclusive Senior Adviser to First Lady Melania Trump Marc Beckman claims Russian kids are being kidnapped too #BothSides
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
There is no evidence that Ukraine has kidnapped Russian children.UN investigation concluded that Russia’s deportation, transfer and disappearance of Ukrainian children constitute war crimes UN report: ohchr.org/en/press-relea…

Former President Aleksandar Vučić has conceded defeat in today’s Serbian parliamentary election, with the broad anti-corruption Students’ List coalition winning enough seats to gain a clean majority. Celebrations have reportedly broken out in the center of Belgrade.

One American named in the story is widely distrusted after directly assisting Rosneft’s takeover of Yukos. The other worked for Yeltsin for a time and helped put Russia in the WTO, which was US policy at that time.
Reading stories like this is so disheartening. It makes me realize that, decades later and despite everything that’s happened, the West still hasn’t learned a thing about Putin or Russia and remains so easily manipulated.

Pinch hitter on deck.
The American side proposed a ceasefire regime in the Oleshky area starting October 27. Because this cannot be just one day. It will last several days. Humanitarian missions must come there: the Americans, us, and the Russians. The Russians must clear the roads of mines, and we must see this and work on all of it there. I have given the Ombudsman the relevant instructions. We have also spoken with the Security Service and the military. Of course, Russia will do everything to demine the roads in such a way that these people go to Russia and stay there. They are not going to simply set people free. And some people will be evacuated to Ukraine one way or another – to the part we control. The main thing is to free these people from the blockade so they can live. Ideally, they should be able to achieve their goal and evacuate here, to us, to Ukraine, which will provide them with everything they need and support them. How is Donald Trump’s criticism of President Zelensky interpreted in Moscow? “Moscow perceives these words as a mandate to continue military pressure,” writes one Russian paper. I ask Muscovites to name one word that’s important to them, & read what Russian schoolkids are taught about “defence of the Motherland.” #ReadingRussia

“I have here the terms of service, which Mr. Musk has signed.”
Confusion after @elonmusk says Ukraine violated “terms of service” with Starlink so SpaceX closed a “loophole,” but then adds only USG controls Starshield. So: - If Starlink was the issue, then why was Starshield throttled? - If Starlink loophole closed, why are speeds back?

Then he can go clean American embassy personnel’s toilets of all the peacemaking Lubyanka leaves in their toilets.
Elon is a Peacemaker. He sees the disastrous consequences of escalatory steps and understands the profiteering motives of warmongers who prolong war with unrealistic solutions masked 🎭 by deceitful moral posturing and media campaigns. Peacemakers will succeed. 🇷🇺🤝🇺🇸🕊️

Humanitarian Home Depot targeting.
This week, Russia has hit nine “Epicentr” stores across Ukraine. These are Ukraine’s version of “Home Depot,” where people buy household appliances - including generators to power their homes through the winter as Russian strikes knock out electricity across the country. This live was from a store hit Thursday. Four more were hit in the last 24 hours alone.

I’m content with people who tweet too much in government because they use words that may be badly united by syntax, with poor grammar. But we’d be really be concerned if they used some emojis: “Just found out the VERY BAD governor of Greenland refused to host our nukes.🤯”

It’s not rocket science. If you want to move more US power to the Pacific you need to either treat Russia as less threat than irritant or Europe as less trustworthy or both and Ukraine as an inconvenience. Gets rid of the reason we are in Europe, pleases Trump. Plus simple.
