That quote is terrible. It actually indicates that the PAYMENT might be what isnt possible not the work that was done. Christ. Also volunteers give opinions and they aren't paid.

Naoki Hamaguchi says FF7 Revelation's multiplatform development did not cause any creative sacrifices for the game! He says the team primarily develops around PS5 and PC specs and they have a separate porting team that handles optimization for additional platforms. Instead of scaling down the game’s ambitions for lower-spec systems, they adjust assets and technical implementations so that each platform receives the best possible version without compromising on core design goals. “We did not make sacrifices to the game experience” onemoregame.ph/2026/10/final…

Xbox tried to compete between 2018-2023, and it didn't work out. That's when they acquired Playground, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, Bethesda Zenimax, Activision-Blizzard & Co.
The people demanding Xbox abandon exclusives and go fully multiplatform don’t even play on Xbox. They lose nothing if the console disappears. I’d rather see Xbox fight to compete, even if it fails, than willingly bow out and leave only Nintendo and PlayStation.

That deleted post perfectly encapsulates the attitude I've been talking about. “I'm paid to give my opinion, you're not” isn't some devastating rebuttal. It's an incredibly arrogant way of saying, “My views carry weight because I'm paid to express them, yours don't.” Being a professional commentator doesn't grant you immunity from criticism. Quite the opposite: if you're going to make a living telling people what you think, you have to accept that they'll have something to say about it. You recently lamented the growing hostility in your replies, yet turn around and effectively tell your audience that their opinions count for nothing because you're the one getting paid. Perhaps the problem isn't the bots and engagement farmers you're so keen to blame.

Mind you, @DMC_Ryan's defining, paid for opinion this gen was claiming PS5 would raise prices in the same time frame as Xbox. Then, when that didn't happen and he was rightfully called out for it, he went dark on social media and never brought it up again.
Wow @DMC_Ryan , just wow. I'd also like to remind you that if you stopped sharing your opinions, not a single person will care about it. Be grateful that you get paid for what you do, and not be an ass.

If one of your tentpole IP’s doesn’t sell on your own platform, that doesn’t bode well for the idea of exclusivity. I don’t know what the path forward is after that to be honest.

PlayStation fumbled Bluepoint so bad.
Bloodborne has sold 10.4M copies, generating $317M in revenue (@alineaanalytics estimates). Even THIS YEAR, Bloodborne has sold 251K copies. And of the nearly 500K people who played Bloodborne this month so far, 12% also played Elden Ring this month, while 6% also played Dark Souls 3 and 5% also played Sekiro. There’s a cohort of gamers who are always bouncing between different From games. Can’t blame them, especially with this one. Bloodborne, to me, is among the best games of all time, and I play it every Halloween. It’s hands-down my favourite souls-like (I count Sekiro as an action game, though, for the record). There’s a bunch of reasons for my Bloodborne obsession: - A big part is the atmosphere – a festering marriage of gothic and cosmic horror. It’s a perfect Halloween game for me, vibes-wise. And some of those jump scares, man. - The interconnectedness of Yharnam feels dense, claustrophobic, and masterfully looped together. I adore Elden Ring, don’t get me wrong, but I’d love From to return to a more linear and tightly-packed map. They’re just too great at it. - Piecing together the tragic history of the Healing Church, the Old Blood, and the Great Ones (cheers for the help there, @VaatiVidya) was an experience I’ll always cherish. Environmental storytelling and scouring through item descriptions can be a pain in the arse, but it’s rewarding. - And it doesn’t hurt that Bloodborne’s combat is fucking superb, too. More than Souls games, it rewards risk and punishes hesitation. Now, if only we could get an official 60 FPS patch or a remake. Alright, back to Yharnam for me.

Horror is having an awesome come up lately
Horror games have generated $1.3B on Steam this year (@alineaanalytics estimates) That’s already up 17% over 2025, and with two full months to go. It’s also up more than 4X on 2019. Some stats based on our estimates: - Steam has generated a little over $18.1B so far this year – in other words, horror accounts for 7% of all revenue generated on Steam in 2026 so far. Wild when we put it like that, isn’t it? - Of horror’s $1.3B on Steam this year, 41% ($516.2M) came from games that released this year and 54% ($683.5M) came from games released in either 2026 or 2025. - These figures are up from the past two years, with 39% of 2025’s horror game revenues coming from 2025 (and 53% from 2024 and 2025 combined), and 25% of 2024’s horror revenues coming from 2024 (and 48% from 2024 and 2023). This means that Steam’s horror revenues are not only growing in terms of raw numbers per year, but new horror games are making up an increasing share of horror game revenue. That said, one titan of a game is contributing heavily to 2026’s number. Resident Evil Requiem has generated $211.3M on Steam this year, accounting for 16.6% of Steam’s 2026 horror revenues and 40.7% of the revenues via 2026 horror games. More on Substack.

PS the home of SH rn for sure.
A spooky @alineaanalytics estimates drop : - Silent Hill Townfall has sold through (no unsold retail copies!) 404K copies (70.9% on PS5) since launching last month. It’s generated $20.2M. On PlayStation, 42.8% of the revenue came from discs – a high share that’s typical for Japan-centric launches. - Hellraiser: Revival, which we highlighted as one to watch last month, has also done well given its small scope. Since launching on Oct 8, Hellraiser has sold 344K copies and generated $13.1M, with 43.7% via PS5, 43.2% via Steam, and 13.1% via Xbox (console and PC). Critics weren’t into this one (69 on Metacritic), but fans of the franchise loved it, as shown by the 93% positive rating on Steam, and the 4.7/5 user ratings on PS5 and Xbox. - Resident Evil Requiem, Village, and the remakes for 2, 3, and 4 have generated a combined $850M this year across PlayStation, Steam and Xbox.
