It's an incredibly arrogant way of saying, “My views carry weight because I'm paid to express them, yours don't.” Being a professional commentator doesn't grant you immunity from criticism. Quite the opposite: if you're going to make a living telling people what you think, you have to accept that they'll have something to say about it. You recently lamented the growing hostility in your replies, yet turn around and effectively tell your audience that their opinions count for nothing because you're the one getting paid. Perhaps the problem isn't the bots and engagement farmers you're so keen to blame.
