Seventy years later, I’m still moved by what they did. This week’s show is a special one. I’ve just come from a commemoration at the Hungarian Cultural Centre in Melbourne, with a 45-minute musical production put on entirely by volunteers. There weren’t many dry eyes in the room. My parents left Hungary in 1947 and arrived in Australia in 1949. So for me, this is personal. Freedom is in my genes.
