100% agree. It's pointless to bang on about map and compasses when there are great digital options that can be downloaded safely. Foster the interest and the real navigation will come in time.

Mercifully, this piece doesn’t quote anyone from Mountain Rescue arguing for walkers to carry a compass (a doomed request). It *does* however mention carrying a paper map (which is also a doomed request). Because… 1/3

There's no doubt this time of year is always grim and hard to get through, but living in this landscape also destroys my soul. So much rubbish, so many people that don't give a shit, and it's flat. I am glad it is temporary and I can't wait to make the hills my home again.
