Activists used to dismiss our critiques on grounds that they weren't published in academic journals. That was, of course, just a convenient cover story for keeping their heads buried in the sand. Our formal critiques are now in the journals, and the authors of the studies we critiqued have been contacted numerous times to release their data and invited to respond. Their tactic now seems to be to pretend our critiques don't exist. Never mention them. Just keep citing the debunked studies. This is not how honest academics behave.
Exactly 6-weeks since we published our critique of the famous Kurth et al (2022) study - “Brain Sex in Transgender Women Is Shifted towards Gender Identity” - and the authors have still not replied, nor has any of anonymised individual-level data been released for re-analysis (after multiple attempts over several months)…. I wonder why? 🤔 @SwipeWright @AdamRochussen link.springer.com/article/10…

Iranian women: 'Help, we're being massacred for refusing to wear veils and asking for the vote'. Yazidi women: 'Help, we're being held as sex slaves and our families are dead'. Western Schoolteachers: 'Help, we've been forced into hiding because we showed cartoons'. Western liberals:
I’ve never had a Muslim tell me what I can and can’t do. But Christians have been telling me what I can and can’t do my entire fucking life.

Why are families with married parents more stable than others? Family researchers often point to selection effects, arguing that it is not marriage but education, income, and other characteristics that explain the difference. Using the same UK data with methodological improvements, @harrybenson6 found that the selection effect has been largely overestimated. The better question to ask is not whether marriage matters, but "what happens to people when they marry." @FamStudies: ifstudies.org/blog/does-marr…

At @OregonState, an instructor filed a bias report after a student's final project argued there are only two sexes. Rather than challenge his argument, the instructor reported him for making it. This is exactly why @theFIREorg now judges campus bias-reporting systems more harshly.

This is the Great Isaiah Scroll, copied around 125 BC, more than a century before the birth of Jesus. It is one of the Dead Sea Scrolls and preserves all 66 chapters of Isaiah. Among its passages is Isaiah 53, describing a suffering servant who bears the sins of others. Christians recognize this as a prophecy fulfilled in the suffering and death of Jesus Christ. Part of that passage reads as follows: “But he was pierced because of our rebellion, crushed because of our iniquities.” Isaiah 53:5 What makes this scroll so remarkable is that it physically preserves these words in a manuscript copied before Jesus walked the earth. The prophecy Christians read today was already being copied and preserved long before the crucifixion.

India did pro-capitalist reforms and immediately became richer than sub-Saharan Africa, which they were poorer than until the early 2000s. It's insane how good capitalism is.

1. More billionaires are associated with less poverty. 2. Increasing billionaires per capita by ten fold lowers poverty by 43 percentage points. 3. Sweden has more billionaires per 10M people than the U.S. (34 vs 30) 4. Correlation is fairly strong (R-squared of 0.6 for two variable cross-section data) 4. Since the graph is only a correlation, what do you think is the cause? 🔗in🧵

I watched a nurse at our local hospital offer MAID to my Dad. He was not asking for it, nor had he asked for it. We were trying to get him home as he was about to pass away and he wanted to be at home to be more comfortable. So while we were waiting to be cleared to take him home, a nurse approached us and offered MAID to him. I was disgusted. All the warnings about MAID we debated in the HoC and warned would happen with the change in legislation and the Liberals said would never happen… …are happening. Now Canada has the terrible record of having the most MAID deaths in the WORLD at 16,499 in one year alone. euthanasia101.com/section/st…

Almost 19 hours without electricity. Russian drones are being shot down outside my window. It’s cold inside the room. And this is just another Saturday night in Kyiv. And I believe the day when Russia finally falls apart is getting closer.

Historically, women have been more religious than men in the U.S., going back decades in surveys. That’s still true today, at least when it comes to prayer frequency and the importance people attach to religion in their lives. But the differences are less stark than they used to be.

Pat Murphy says he still wasn’t a good coach even after winning at Notre Dame and going to the College World Series at Arizona State because he was still making it about him instead of the players “You know, when you get to a spot in life when you’re a little bit older, you start to make it not about you. When I dropped my ego, which took a while, I wasn’t a good coach at Notre Dame. Even though we were winning games, I still wasn’t good. I didn’t know baseball, for one, and it was about me a little bit at the end.” “I started the right way. I loved Notre Dame, and I didn’t want to embarrass the university. I was working for $7,000 a year. I just wanted to be good and not embarrass them. We had a lot of success, but then it became about me.” “And then I got to ASU, and it became about me again. We won a lot and went to the World Series a lot, but I just wasn’t good. It took getting knocked on my ass a little bit. I had that NCAA thing, which was total bull, but it woke me up. My kids made a difference in my life, and you start to realize it ain’t about you. Honestly, it’s not about me.” “And whenever I started focusing on that, we came into last year and everything wrong happens. We trade Corbin. Woody’s out for the year. Devin’s out. We cut the budget $30 million. We’re going to suck. And again, I just kept saying, ‘It’s not about me. Make it about that young energy.’ And we had these young guys go out and make me look good. Hungry players, you remember when you guys were hungry in your career? Hungry players make the manager look good.” “And that’s exactly what happened. Now I got the credit for it. I’m still under construction. I’m not great. There are so many areas I suck in. But then you’re trying to find staff members to help you, trying to realize what you suck at.” “But the most important thing is love the player. When you really find the good in that dude, that’s it. The guy that’s hardest to love needs love the most. I’m at a point in life where it’s about them. And if you keep it about them…”

You can always tell if a western ‘Russia expert’ ever lived in Russia and communicated with average Russians or not, she clearly did
Historian Sarah Paine: When Putin dies, there's no democratic election. It's a free-for-all. Nobody in his network knows who takes over, and many Russians have military training, so civil war is possible. Recovery might take 10 years, a number I'm making up. 1/

Indeed. Christianity is now a hedge against the "sex recession". Weekly sex among married churchgoers has barely budged since the '90s. Among secular married couples, it’s fallen from 64% to 48%.👇🏽
Christianity didn’t ruin sex.

A classic chart to counter the wisdom of crowds idea. US Americans are absolutely clueless about how common things are. They think over a quarter of Americans are Native Americans, one in five Americans is transgender, over a quarter of the population are Muslim, one in five households earn over half a million dollars. The right answer to all of these questions is 1%. They build their worldview on totally incorrect assumptions towards reality. Data literacy matters.
