Devastating from @timowenkc & @KenMacdonaldKC on the draft Conversion Practices Bill: “If I read the Theft Act, I have a pretty good idea of whether I’ll be committing theft or not. If I read this Act, I have no idea whether I’ll be committing an offence….” He is a former DPP
Double Jeopardy has issued an invitation to criminal lawyers who want to go on and make the case for the draft Conversion Practices Bill. Really hope someone takes them up on this - I want to hear an expert/informed response to the problems that have been raised with it.

Clearly Japan is a failed state because they have not been ripping old water pipes out of the ground and converting them into homemade rockets and firing them at random American civilians to prove their masculinity and asabiyyahh
This is Nagasaki in 2026. Imagine if they spent the past 80 years wallowing in self-pity and blaming the US? It's incredible what you can accomplish when you decide to pick yourself up, move forward, and take responsibility for your own outcomes.

This is insane. “Free Palestine” has turned governments into complete lunatics.
UK Parliament has mentioned Gaza more than the NHS or immigration. In the Commons, Gaza racked up 9,228 mentions in roughly the first 10 months after the 2024 election — more than immigration/asylum (~5,700) or the NHS (~5,300). A year on, it is still regularly debated: ceasefire, aid, arms, RAF flights, inquiries. This is a conflict 2,000 miles away with no British troops on the ground, no UK territory at stake, and no direct threat to Britain. Domestic problems — waiting lists, housing, borders — keep getting ignored.

Quite, when the Evening Standard was briefed in advance years ago there was uproar. Lewis tells us he is a journalist but of course he is a businessman who makes money from his website
I know this is a small point but you are really not supposed to selectively tell certain people about the contents of your Budget. We used to tell HMT officials they could go to jail for this.

Jewish staff at the BBC have said managers “gaslit” them when they complained about anti-Semitism at the broadcaster. Instead of taking the complaints seriously, managers had asked the alleged victims whether they would like therapy, it was claimed. Others were allegedly told they were being “oversensitive” when they had reported anti-Semitic language⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

Declassified are a deeply antisemitic organisation who bully and intimidate their opponents
Watch the full video here: youtube.com/watch?v=Cqf5dOvZ… We got a furious response from the former Conservative minister Lord Michael Gove when we asked about his position on Israel at the Labour Conference. Gove claimed he knew more about antisemitism than Zack Polanski, the only Jewish leader of a major political party in the UK. He also accused us of not being journalists and of an obsession with Israel, despite the Labour government's change in position on the occupation of Palestine being the key topic at this year's conference. Gove now sits in the House of Lords and is editor of right-wing magazine The Spectator.

I wouldn’t want to be the Greek shipowner who’s transporting the Russian diesel to the US right now. Only congress has the authority to lift sanctions (regardless of Trump’s executive order) and this shipowner is in a potential world of legal problems in the future if he unloads the oil in the US.
NEW!! In a letter to the head of shipping firm EASTMED, Sen. Blumenthal demands a tanker carrying nearly 40,000 metric tons of Russian diesel reverse course before reaching New York/New Jersey, warning the shipment could violate U.S. law. He also demands answers by Oct. 31 👇

So to clarify, it won't end up been fully funded.
🚨Chancellor @JohnHealey_MP confirms in his budget speech that he is "fully funding" the defence investment plan (that means finding the missing £4.7bn out to 2030). Some of this will be done through "capital reprioritisation". He doesn't specify what.

BREAKING: The second-highest ranked diplomat at the French embassy in Iran has been assaulted by the IRGC. Rémy Bouallègue was attacked in front of the French embassy on October 8th despite his diplomatic status. Le Point writes that the French Foreign Ministry decided to hide information about the attack from the public. On July 19th, two diplomats from the French embassy belonging to the Cooperation and Cultural Action Service (SCAC) were arrested and detained for several hours by the security services of the Islamic Republic. One of them was beaten up while in custody. On September 20th, Iranian security forces stormed the French Language Centre in Tehran. Days later, the Iranian judiciary closed that cultural space, which for twenty years has offered French courses and hosted the DELF (Diploma in French Language Studies) and TCF (Test of Knowledge of French) examinations, arguing that “illegal activities” had taken place there. The authorities in Paris believe that France is being primarily targeted because it is one of the last Western countries in Iran still maintaining contact with Iranian civil society, which the Islamic Republic would like to cut off from the outside world in the context of the war waged by the United States and Israel. Having always made a point of keeping its embassy in Tehran open, despite the two successive conflicts that struck Iran in June 2025 and February 2026, France is now, in the eyes of the regime, paying the price for being one of the last major Western countries still present in Iran. The recent attacks come against the backdrop of Macron deciding this summer not to publish a detailed summary note from the General Secretariat for Defence and National Security on interference operations by the Islamic Republic of Iran in France. La Lettre writes that the decision not to make the report public was contrary to the official doctrine of denouncing all actors attacking France. Meanwhile, the Iranian regime has been condemning France for being too heavy-handed against the protest movement currently sweeping France. Tehran even summoned French diplomats in Iran to protest how the French riot police act on the streets. Many in France believe that the Islamic Regime in Iran is doing whatever it can to fan the flames in France and is actively involved in supporting the protest movement and radicalizing it as much as possible. Coupled with the string of recent attacks against French diplomats in Iran, experts say that a pattern has become noticeable, with the Islamic regime stepping up its hybrid war against Iran.

This whole discussion of an imminent General Election seems absurd to me. If there's a General Election now then the most like result is that Restore drops to 2%, Reform drops to 14%, the Tories pick up 7%, the Right votes tactically, there's a Tory govt & Burnham looks an idiot.
Exc: The Liberal Democrats have privately started planning for a snap general election on December 10, estimating there is a 30 per cent chance that Andy Burnham goes to the polls before Christmas. Sir Ed Davey’s party is getting on a war footing to defend its record number of 72 seats won in 2024, assessing that Labour’s “direction of travel” in the opinion polls is all “one way”. A memo written by Lord Pack, who chairs the Lib Dems’ election committee, said the prime minister had made “a run of gambles that paid off” and was “at the peak of his authority”. The date of December 10 has been estimated as it gives ministers one week after the budget to enact measures through legislation before dissolving parliament. “Weigh it all up, and we think there’s roughly a 30 per cent chance of a December 10 election,” Pack wrote in his assessment, seen by The Times. Burnham has insisted the general election will not come until 2029. August of that year is the latest that one can be held. Ministers have been buoyed by Labour’s poll ratings. YouGov puts the party in front at 27 per cent but this would still be likely to leave Burnham short of an overall majority. Pack acknowledged that December was less likely than May 2027, but wrote: “30 per cent is big enough that we would be foolish not to prepare.” He added: “The cost of preparing and being wrong is small. The cost of being caught unprepared would be enormous. We do not intend to be the party that dithers.”

🔥SECONDS OUT, ROUND 3 OF THE DEFENCE SPENDING ROW 🔥 Tory counter spin incoming: A Tory Source said: 'The DIP settlement was TDEL. The amount of TDEL in the budget is £1bn less per year. To describe a billion pounds as a "technical adjustment" when the MOD is cutting training this year to save cash, is for the birds. Labour have been caught out - talking up defence spending in the speech then cutting it in the footnotes.' Glad that's cleared everything up! Or not. Fight!
DEFENCE ROW LATEST: I've now been contacted by a government spinner to help 'clarify' this situation. Here's what they say: "- This is a technical adjustment to RDEL budgets, equal to the amount depts no longer need to spend on pensions. - There is a corresponding increase to AME pensions spending. - This does not affect MoD's spending power, or NATO targets. - Defence spending has been increased by £14bn compared to previous govt's plans" My thought: 'If you're explaining, you're losing' Their response: 'The Tories are reading it wrong. That's the pithier explanation.' Clear as mud. You're all welcome

Let me understand this correctly - the man who resigned because his predecessor refused to increase defence funding has now actually cut defence funding?

Big row potentially brewing on defence… Tories alleging that Healey - the man of principle who quit over DIP - might actually be *cutting* defence spending In the next two financial years, the budget for the MOD will be £1bn a year less than Rachel Reeves planned when the DIP was published in June. The total departmental spending can be calculated from the Budget Red Book pages 145-147. When compared to the DIP settlement, the Tories claim it shows that Labour are cutting £1bn a year from the MOD budget for the next two years. Why? It appears that they are forecast to spend less than expected on pensions. Rather than the MOD being allowed to reuse this Resource Department Expenditure Limit, the Treasury has kept it Cartlidge: “This is a complete dereliction of duty from the Chancellor”
