This kind of thing would never happen in a homogenous society. Something that doesn't get mentioned a lot is how toxic public spaces become in multicultural societies and how much that destroys the happiness of a nation.
In a multicultural low trust society everyone is guarded and everyone is at a baseline completely disinterested in communicating with anyone and at worst openly hostile. If your flight was just people from your community, your people, it would feel like a party.
