There are a few days etched in my mind as days I will never forget: my children’s birthdays, the birthdays and special days of my family members, my own birthday and a few holidays that come around every year. One day that is definitely etched in my mind is Oct. 16, 1995. That was the day one million Black men gathered on the National Mall to elevate themselves and dedicate themselves to the Black family. Minister Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam and many other Black leaders, including Jesse Jackson, came together for this cause and helped organize the march. Black men galvanized from all over the country to show a sense of unity, strength, determination and love — the love we have among ourselves and share with our friends and family. This day is also known as the Day of Atonement. So, we take today to apologize to anyone we may have wronged, knowingly or unknowingly, ask for their forgiveness and take accountability for what we have done. I know for a fact that one million Black men were there. Each year, it gives me pause that, so many years after such a historic event, I don’t see the coverage of it on social media that I would expect. However, the thing that is really important is that many of us, 31 years later, have healthy families and marriages. We are adding value to our communities, affecting change and transforming lives because of the dedication we made to ourselves and to each other on Oct. 16, 1995. So here we are, 31 years later, once again observing the Day of Atonement. Allow me to take this moment to ask forgiveness from anyone I have wronged or led astray, take accountability for it and ask that we move forward in peace and forgiveness. I would like to give a special and resounding thank-you to Minister Louis Farrakhan for his unyielding support of the Black family and, specifically, of Black men. We honor him, we respect him and we love him. Long live the spirit of the Million Man March. #MillionManMarch #mmm #NationOfIslam #attonement #Farrakhan

I had the honor of interviewing Freddie Jackson in 2024 while I was visiting St. Kitts for their music festival. We talked about music these days and he had some very poignant words to share. God Bless Freddie Jackson and may he rest in peace.
