At least 61,059 Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of names from Karnataka’s electoral rolls were filed by election officials themselves, with not a single application mentioning a reason for the deletion, a mandatory requirement under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. ✍️@pon_vasanth and @rishitaakhanna thehindu.com/news/national/k…

Will capping trade margins on 137 #cancer drugs actually lower #medical bills? My recent story in @timesofindia examines the risk that #hospitals could offset lower #drug margins with higher charges for diagnostics, consumables or procedures. Lower drug prices don’t automatically mean cheaper cancer care. The move requires strict monitoring & implementation across all stakeholders. #patients #healthcare #health

First they create fear, detain protestors, smash bones, throw leaders in jail, book some under UAPA, install CCTVs, monitor social media, victimize dissenters, harass cartoonists, call the bulldozers - then they ask, "if so many voters are excluded, why are they not protesting"?

The EDF (Export Declaration Form) rules are now in effect, and it seems like RBI and banks have conspired to create a new hell. Or actually 5 hells. I consult for an American company. Raised October invoice. Received the Inward remittance. And bang! Mail from @HDFC_Bank detailing everything needed before the payment can be processed. Let me tell you what the 5 hells are: 1. The hell of confusion – RBI clarified last month that the EDF rules do not apply to individuals. But looks like they haven’t told the banks. And CAs also don’t seem to know. There’s no official communication on who is exempt. Last I checked, I was an individual. No company, no LLP. But HDFC still wants me to file the EDF to credit my payment. 2. The hell of complexity – See the attached pic of the form the bank has sent in excel. It has 5 sheets. To be filled and submitted. Some abstruse acronyms like “AD” - no clue what it means. Some fields are mandatory. Some fields are to be filled by the bank. No idea which is what. And it needs a physical signature. Which leads to... 3. The hell of paperwork - They also sent a pdf with a bunch of request letters. I’m supposed to choose the right letter, print, sign, scan and submit. Creating more paper today is incredibly silly. And, I suppose, someone in the bank will have to upload all this somewhere. Reminds me of those hand-filled immigration forms. Pointless. 4. The hell of repetition – At least for me, most of the details are constant. One client, one payment. If it’s a one-time exercise, fine. I’ll grit my teeth and get it done. But no. These details have to be given month after month. Else… no payment will be credited. 5. The hell of unpreparedness – It would have been simple enough for RBI or HDFC to create an online portal for this. With dropdowns, saved formats, contextual help, etc. to at least make this easy. But that would be too convenient, no? So, they’ve chosen to dump the entire burden on the taxpayer. I have no opinion or understanding of why this is needed. Maybe it is critical information. Okay! But why make the process so confusing and painful? And poor communication has meant that the banks have just passed on the pain to the exporter, and even CAs can’t help. Basically RBI & HDFC feel I should consult less, and comply more. Maybe my client will also agree :)

out of the 5 tenders eMudhra has won, as per my database, 3 of them are single-financial bid tenders. eMudhra had no competition. i wonder why
If you'd like to start an #emudhra competitor in India, a CCA license requires 50 crores for companies and 5 crores for Individuals/firms. The rest of the guidelines are at cca.gov.in/sites/files/pdf/g…

It was Modi who agreed to reduce tariffs on American goods to zero. It was Modi who committed to buying $500 billion worth of American goods. It was Modi who had agreed to stop buying Russian oil because Trump asked him to. But according to some it’s the opposition and CJP who are being controlled by foreign powers.🤦🏻‍♂️

In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…

The continued incarceration of Saurav and Ashutosh is a blot on rule of law in India. No democracy worth its salt jails two young men in a high-security prison for more than a week on trumped up trespassing charges. This is a perversion of the law, a deliberate twisting of colonial-era provisions by a state that has decided it is above the law. The Delhi High Court, in all its wisdom, refused to hear the matter today - preferring instead to allow the SEM Court at Mandir Marg, where the police is judge, jury, and executioner, to pronounce a verdict. Now that a fundamentally unjust verdict has been passed, I hope the doors of justice will no longer remain shut. What we are witnessing playing out in front of us should concern us all. They will do to Ashutosh and Saurav today what they will do to you and me tomorrow. To stay silent in the face of such injustice, then, is not only immoral but inimical to our own shared interests.

The rule of law exists to ensure that the rights of citizens even with no special status or power except the status of being citizens of a democratic country are not trampled over. The rule of law cannot & should not in itself become a weapon in the hands of the state to silence dissenting voices that it prefers not to hear. The continued JC of @SauravDassss & @AshutoshRanka sets a dangerous precedence. We must speak now! Refuse to accept the weaponisation of the rule of law against our democracy!

Courts are meant to dispassionately apply the law and hand down a legally tenable decision, not to pass sermons that are superfluous to legal proceedings.
Replying to @LiveLawIndia
Court: What are your ages? 27 and 31 years, Chimni responds. Court: Then you are not genZ. What age of people are millennials? It was student protest, Children were there but now its another cause. People remain same but cause is changed. Next question is who are you? What are you? What is your association? What is purport of the association? When there is apprehension of breach of peace and tranquility, all this questions will assume importance.

I’ve long wondered about this practice: how is it ok, in today’s age, to have a ‘pseudonym’ columnist? I’d understand for whistleblower; personal story of risk. But for a regular “analysis”column that can fire away anything on India’s most divisive issue without accountability?
1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national. 2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights. 3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right. 4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else. 5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective: Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not theprint.in/opinion/sharjeel…

Important: Here’s something that a LOT of people don’t know about what’s actually going on with Delhi Police. CJP’s Saurav Das & Ashutosh Ranka have been sent to 2 more days of judicial custody in Tihar Jail. By a judicial court? NO. They have been kept in Tihar Jail for the last 6 days on the order of a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM). Who is an SEM? He is an ACP-rank (junior) police officer of Delhi Police appointed by the state govt. Therefore, Delhi Police arrested Saurav & Ashutosh & now a Delhi Police ACP (acting as SEM) is keeping them in jail. There’s no FIR against them. There’s also no judicial order. Delhi Police are the accusers & well as the judge when it comes to keeping them in jail. That’s how messed up it is.
