March 2017. South Australia was still getting over a statewide blackout, and someone asked on Twitter whether Tesla could guarantee 100 MW in 100 days. Elon's answer, word for word: "Tesla will get the system installed and working 100 days from contract signature or it is free. That serious enough for you?" As a skipper I've learned that in a storm, promises mean nothing and only what works counts. Elon put a price on his promise. The clock started on Sept 29, 2017, when the grid connection agreement was signed. On Dec 1 the Hornsdale Power Reserve was feeding the grid. That's 63 days, with 37 to spare, and it was the world's largest lithium-ion battery (100 MW / 129 MWh). On launch night Elon said: "Talk is cheap. Action is difficult." Now the part that gets me. In Q3 2026 alone, Tesla deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage. That's about 106 Hornsdales in one quarter, more than one every single day. What made world headlines in 2017 is now a daily routine. Megapack factories: Lathrop 40 GWh, Shanghai 20 GWh, and Megafactory Texas has started production with a planned 50 GWh a year. This was never really about one battery. It's the master plan in action: solar plus storage plus electric transport, step by step until it's simply normal. In Elon's words that night: "Earth is itself a satellite. It's a satellite of the sun." And: "the faster we get there, the better."

Mercedes sold its Tesla stake for $780 million. that same 4 percent is worth about $56 billion today. in the clip below Musk explains how Mercedes ended up there. the US government gave Tesla almost $500 million, and he is asked directly whether that loan saved the company. he says no. what saved it was a $50 million check from Daimler in May 2009. all of Tesla was worth $550 million then. "they were the only ones. there was no other company, no other entity of any kind from which we could get investments." Tesla repaid the government's $500 million with interest and a prepayment penalty, ten years early. he sent a thank you note with it. "i don't like having a lot of debt. the taxpayers supported Tesla, we ought to repay them as soon as we can." Mercedes turned $50 million into $780 million and walked away in 2014. so was that a great investment - or the most expensive mistake in car industry history?

I’ve been using Grok Bot to prototype physical product ideas faster. I give it sketches and 3D models, and it helps me create technical diagrams, prepare RFQs, and communicate with manufacturers to bring them to life. Here’s one of the pieces I worked on: Hyperbole

Former $GOOGL employee on why data center capacity and electricity are the real bottlenecks, not GPU production itself, and how unreliable some of the neoclouds are ($AMZN, $GOOGL, $MSFT, $NVDA): 1. According to the expert, open-source models are closing the gap with frontier models faster than expected, with customers increasingly replacing Anthropic and OpenAI models in multi-agent architectures with open-source alternatives starting from Q2 of this year. The shift started with simple tasks like tool calling and MCP, but has moved up the stack to low-level orchestration. 2. The expert identifies capacity as the biggest constraint at the moment, with certain companies' traffic growing 5x while GPU availability, particularly in the U.S. where latency requirements are tightest, simply cannot keep up. Sourcing capacity overseas in Asia or Australia is technically possible but adds latency that most customers will not accept. 3. Hyperscalers offer reliability but are expensive, require multi-year commitments of three or more years, and have limited availability of the latest hardware, with customers already chasing B300s. AI-native companies tend to gravitate toward neoclouds due to hyperscaler pricing and contract rigidity, but neoclouds come with their own reliability issues, with GPUs dropping off unexpectedly and requiring engineering resources to manage fleet stability around the clock. 4. The third tier consists of smaller independent operators who have invested in GPU racks, seeing the opportunity to lease out capacity and recoup costs within a year or two, with the remainder being pure profit. The expert describes these as essentially unusable in practice, with operators who do nothing more than find land, install racks, connect electricity, and set up cooling, with no real cloud management, maintenance, or operational expertise behind them. 5. The expert expects overall GPU availability to increase meaningfully over the next year or two, with $NVDA continuing to ramp production. The real bottleneck is not GPUs themselves but data center capacity and electricity in the U.S. On the supply side, the expert also sees players $SPCX beginning to lease out spare capacity to the market, with more likely to follow. 6. The expert notes that U.S.-based neoclouds typically require 20-30% prepayment upfront, with the remainder paid monthly or quarterly over the contract term, and rebates negotiated at the end for any reliability incidents like traffic loss. APAC-based providers operate differently, with no prepayment required at all. found on @AlphaSenseInc

Elon Musk in new interview with Walter Isaacson on the wealth he's created: "A fundamental misunderstanding of economics arises because of conflating resource allocation and consumption; I've created. My so-called wealth is simply a percentage ownership in SpaceX and Tesla. And this is going to be taxed quite heavily, and there's not some magical way to avoid taxes. If there were I would know about it. At the end of the day, this will get whittled down, and a few generations from now, if money still matters, which I don't think it will, my descendants would have a tiny fraction of what I have."

Since I posted about using Grok Bot to buy things with my credit card, so many people have been asking whether it’s actually safe What’s actually strange to me is that for decades, people have been handing their credit cards to complete strangers at restaurants. Someone takes your card, walks away with it, swipes it through a machine, processes your payment, and brings it back And most people don’t even think twice about it We live in a digital world where software already handles enormous amounts of financial transactions every single day Tbh these days is actually more safer to let AI/SI do the shopping for you then you doing the shopping for you with AI/SI agents, you can sandbox them, give them limited permissions, and have them ask for your approval before making important decisions…. These days the latest models are really good at understanding the real world and they’re extremely cautious about the things that they do for you From what I’ve personally experienced with Grok Bot, it’s actually extraordinary how cautious it is when handling these tasks If something is expensive or really needs your attention, it simply pauses for a moment and asks you what you want to do. It gives you a few simple options, you choose what you want, and the final decision is still yours where you have to make And all of this happens without you having to go through the entire hassle of shopping yourself I’ve personally watched how carefully Grok Bot handles these things, and I’m really impressed by it Even Elon said that if Grok Bot makes a mistake with your purchase, they’ll make you whole That tells you how much confidence the team has in what they have built…. and it is really amazing. I just run out of limits every single week because I’ve been using it so much The interesting part is Grok Bot actually does a better job shopping than you in many situations Think about how often you open shopping website to buy something, see some random banner or attractive advertisement, and suddenly you’re looking at three other things you never even needed 😂 This happens all the time with online shopping These websites are absolutely filled with advertisements designed to grab your attention and get you to buy more things But Grok Bot can actually research what you need, compare products, find better deals, and save you a lot of money instead of getting you distracted in that entire mess of advertising And the amount of time it saves is actually just ridiculous You don’t have to spend hours browsing different websites, comparing prices, going through endless product listings, filling out forms, and handling every single step of the purchase You just tell your Grok Bot what you want, and it handles so much of the work for you. And whenever something actually needs your attention, it simply asks It gets so much easier, and once you start using these Grok Bot for everyday tasks, you really begin to understand how incredibly useful it really is

Maybe we should start a competitor to Amazon 🤔
amazon is blocking grok @bots from ordering, and elon's answer is just have your bot buy it somewhere else. one of my grok bots only handles my amazon returns, so i'm watching this one closely. would you switch stores for your bot? 🛒 Elon, i think its time for an X Shop? 👀

I have millions of files on just one laptop. I archive and curate all day long. This is one of my power tools. Use it! No operating system or even commercial software can make sense of your files like Grok Bot can. So I built a solution. Beautiful and useful clickable reports plus PDF archives. Link: x.ai/bot/esUBlwCDVvKUlr77LY8…
WOW! GROK BOT MAKES SENSE OF YOUR LOCAL FILES. Ever wonder what's actually hiding on your computer? This @Grok @Bot PRIVATELY scans your photos, videos, songs, and documents and turns them into a stunning, modern report in both HTML and PDF! - Photo thumbnails with date taken, camera, and location - Album covers pulled right from your music files - Video poster frames with length and resolution - First-page previews of your documents - One click opens any file And it's built with security first. It only reads your files, never moves or deletes anything without your okay, skips the private folders you choose, and keeps location data out of reports unless you ask for it. Just say "find all my photos from 2024" or "show me every song I own" and watch it go! x.ai/bot/esUBlwCDVvKUlr77LY8…

Brace yourselves. Over the next few weeks you are going to see a wave of hatred against Elon Musk unlike anything before. A four-hour hit-piece documentary rolling out nationwide. Midterms three weeks away. Every outlet, every NGO, every “expert” panel suddenly singing from the same sheet, on the same day, with the same words. None of it is spontaneous. What you are watching is an organism. Call it international socialism, call it the managerial left, the name doesn’t matter. It is a network that spent decades quietly capturing the universities, the newsrooms, the foundations, the administrative state, every institution that was supposed to referee the game instead of playing it. For years it worked because no one with real power ever looked under the hood. Then a man who lands rockets, owns the public square and needs nobody’s permission started looking. And started showing everyone else what he found. So the organism does what every organism does when it senses a threat to its survival. It screams. Don’t mistake the noise for strength. What you are about to hear is not the roar of a system in control. It is a death cry. The louder it gets, the closer he is to the nerve. I wrote about why this happens, and why “Nazi” is always the weapon of choice 👇 teapaw.org/brivael/status/2069203…

Dear Prime Minister Ambani, Please accept my humble apologies for not realizing that you are the real boss of India. Naturally, you would prefer to maintain your monopolistic exploitation of the great people of India, but would you nonetheless consider allowing Starlink to compete? There are many areas of India, as there are in all countries, with no Internet access, which denies children the opportunity for education and for small businesses the opportunity to sell their goods to a global market. Starlink would change their lives for the better. Thank you 🙏
