There are so many deeply ominous news items right now.
The U.S. Army is now training soldiers to dig mass battlefield graves for American troops for the first time in decades, rehearsing how to handle mass casualties as Trump's war continues. The Army says it hasn't needed to do this on a large scale since the Korean War.

Nobody wants data centers. Nobody wants humanoid robots. We want clean water, nature, and healthy wildlife. We want to live!

Danny Ellerd was so ill that jail refused to take him. He weighed just 92 pounds, and an infected hand was threatening his life. In 2021, after years of addiction and homelessness, two bounty hunters found him on outstanding warrants. He says his hand was so swollen from injecting drugs that they couldn’t handcuff him. At the jail, a nurse insisted he needed a hospital instead. Doctors saved his hand, and his life. After treatment, Ellerd entered recovery through Hope Is Alive. He later enrolled at Oklahoma State University, studying Computer Information Systems while working and managing a recovery home. He graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. By October 2026, he reported five years of sobriety, two college degrees and a job helping people move out of homelessness. He also wrote a book called Recovery Is Possible.

What I love about this video more than anything else is for everyone to watch it and then watch the smile on the professor @s_m_marandi at 2 minutes and 7 seconds. It’s a thing of beauty

Rest in peace, Sir Patrick Stewart, who passed away today at the age of 86. Perhaps best known for his iconic role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Stewart spent the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown sharing videos of himself reading Shakespeare’s sonnets. Notably, he was once joined by his neighbor’s cat Glenn who appeared unimpressed by Sonnet 40. #cat #catlovers #RIP

I come from a Star Trek family. My mom grew up watching the original series, & my grandfather called her, a skinny kid, "Bones" after Dr. McCoy. My brother & I came up with TNG (our childhood dog's name was Mr. Worf), & as an elder millennial, Picard was *my* captain. Stewart played Picard with a perfect balance of stoicism, integrity & compassion that was reflected in how he lived his life. What a loss.
Revered actor Patrick Stewart, the Emmy-winning performer beloved for both his amiable persona and roles in popular franchises like 'Star Trek' and 'X-Men,' has died at age 86 🕊️

The slaughter of nearly 75,000 Palestinians is NOT "a matter of taste"
CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss claims she had nothing to do with removing the Gaza death toll from network's October 7 anniversary coverage. "It’s a question of taste, and I think you can make a legitimate argument on either side of that."

It’s the same issue with taxes. People want lower taxes, but then they get higher healthcare costs. With higher taxes, your healthcare costs could actually be dramatically lower! This is where binary thinking is the problem. People think of taxes as something in themselves as opposed to what you get for them.
Most people miss this about socialism: your money is already being taken and used to prop someone else up. Under capitalism, that someone is a billionaire. Under socialism, it's your neighbor.

We stand with Jill against fascist harassment by the courts because SHE stood by the STUDENTS DURING THE ENCAMPMENTS when no one else dared! Free Jill Stein.
Dr. Jill Stein is facing fascist retaliation by the Trump regime for protesting against Israeli genocide. She faces 18 months in prison after being violently arrested by the state for opposing Israel Where are the “left” voices standing with her? Where is Bernie Sanders? Zohran Mamdani? AOC and the DSA? Are they truly going to stay quiet and refuse solidarity with victims of fascism simply because they are not a Democrat!? This is terrifying signs of things to come

I just woke up from sleeping and literally my first thought was "how did we as humans ever accept technology that invades our homes, our bedrooms, our relationships, our private spaces as if it was OK to do so?" It is so frickin' not OK

True confession: Usually, when the #Braves are eliminated, I'm out. I've had no interest in the Dodgers, Yankees, Astros, etc. This post-season, my wife wanted to watch the #Brewers, so I did too. What a joy. Their "old school" skills should be studied by every youth team. Bravo!
