Drawing is a powerful way to learn—but teachers need to scaffold the process. By standing at the whiteboard and asking students clarifying questions like “What do you mean by ‘goes under the other,’ and how should I draw it?” you can ensure they truly understand the material. 🤩

ALT DID YOU KNOW? Students who draw new information remember nearly twice as much as students who write about, speak about, or visualize it. But be careful: When kids draw complex materials on their own, they can inadvertently commit mistakes to memory. By engaging in collaborative drawing at the whiteboard, teachers can “immediately deal with emerging inaccuracies and misconceptions by initiating revision.” Sources: Fernandes, Wammes, & Meade, 2018; Lardi & Leopold, 2022
