I'm not necessaeily optimistic about Tuesday's election in Israel. After this week, I am optimistic about the Jewish people. A wedding, a grieving mother who chose joy, new olim who chose to come home. @TimesofIsrael. @JerusalemFdn @JewishAgency blogs.timesofisrael.com/at-t…

Peace is a direction and an aspiration. Where to start and what are the GPS are the challenges.
There was a time when Israeli politicians spoke openly and proudly about their yearning for peace. It was not a sign of weakness but a source of pride. The word even appeared in @netanyahu’s campaign slogans and was regularly a central theme in his UN speeches. In 2023, just weeks before October 7, Netanyahu used the word “peace” 42 times at the UN. A year later, that number dropped to 21, then to 13 in 2025. Last month, he mentioned it just once. And he is hardly alone. @gadi_eisenkot, @naftalibennett and even @YairGolan1 rarely speak about peace anymore. How did Israel, a country founded on the hope that one day its children would no longer have to fight, reach a point where even speaking about peace seems to have become taboo? What happened to our belief that peace was something worth striving for, even when it seems impossible? When did we stop daring to dream of a different future? We @BethTzedec join all Canadians in mourning the tragic loss of life at @CanadianForces Base Wainwright. And we add to our prayers those who were injured and are recovering. May God comfort the mourners and their families, and heal the wounded. Amen.

1/6 Genesis 6:11: "The earth was filled with hamas," lawlessness. The sin that brought the Flood. On Oct 7, Hamas named its massacre "the Al-Aqsa Flood." A thread on what that name tells us. 🧵 blogs.timesofisrael.com/the-…

5/6 Symbolism isn't proof. Documents are: Sinwar's handwritten Oct 7 blueprint is dated Aug 24, 2022. The name shows how they saw themselves: the Flood, with us as the drowned.
6
4/6 It's an old move. Blood libel: the Torah's ban on blood turned into a murder charge. Purim 1942: Nazis hanged 10 Jews in Zduńska Wola, for Haman's 10 sons. 1973: Yom Kippur, chosen on purpose.
9
3/6 The attack's name is different. Tufan is the Qur'an's word for Noah's deluge: "The flood seized them while they were wrongdoers" (29:14). Hamas quoted that verse in a leaflet two months later.

2/6 To be precise: "Hamas" is an Arabic acronym that spells a word meaning zeal. No evidence the 1987 founders meant Genesis. The echo is real; the intent is unproven.

For me, the central question of this election is simple: Failing to form a government and heading straight into another election would be catastrophic for Israel. We might be militarily stronger today because our enemies are weaker, but military superiority does not eliminate the dangers of political paralysis. With so many challenges still unresolved, returning to the cycle of election after election would put Israel back on the same destructive path that preceded October 7. Are there alternatives? Yes. Are they easy? Not at all. My latest in the @Jerusalem_Post. jpost.com/opinion/article-91…

Yep. This will work.
Israel cannot afford to alienate Diaspora Jews, especially at a time when the relationship is already under strain. With elections two weeks away, the next government has an opportunity to rebuild trust through 3 relatively simple decisions on religion and state. Thank you @natan_sharansky This is a question I ask often. Your answer, "Our existence does not depend on a vote in the United Nations. It depends on our own belief in the righteousness of Jewish civilization." @BethTzedec
“Is the Whole World Wrong?” It’s a question I often hear, especially from young Jews. Enter this MUST READ by the indefatigable Natan Sharansky in @tabletmag tabletmag.com/sections/news/…

Brett Stephens strikes again.
It is hard to describe how offensive this was. Bret Stephens’ @nytimes @nytopinion column on @NYCMayor’s statement on the 3rd anniversary of #October7 is required reading: nytimes.com/2026/10/09/opini…

Reposting in honour of memory.
Three years after October 7, the Jewish calendar offers another way to remember: a king at the door asking, "Stay one more day. Your parting is hard for me." On Rashi, Lee Yaron, and the families teaching us that memory lives at the table. blogs.timesofisrael.com/thre…

🔥”devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza”🔥 Dear @NYCMayor: You choose to deploy this inflammatory rhetoric on any given day, but it’s especially shocking on this day. And then you act surprised that so many Jewish New Yorkers believe you are an arsonist. Our hope would be that the Mayor would instead choose to be a fireman.
This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

Once again Mamdani is showing his true colours. Shame.
.@NYCMayor, not once do you say “Jews.” On Oct. 7, Hamas-led attackers murdered civilians, committed sexual violence, mutilated bodies and took hostages. You are weaponizing a day meant for mourning the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust to recycle your usual antizionist talking points. The city with the largest Jewish population outside Israel deserves a mayor who can honor the dead without exploiting them.

We welcome the call from the Canadian Police Association and the @CACP_ACCP for federal, provincial and territorial Justice and Public Safety Ministers to come together with police leaders and frontline representatives to advance concrete measures to keep Canadians safe. For months, CIJA, alongside tens of thousands of Jewish community members and allies across Canada, has advocated for this important step to ensure new and existing laws are enforced, criminals are held accountable and communities are protected. After the horrific Belleville synagogue attack, this work has become even more urgent. Last month, we welcomed Justice Minister @SeanFraserMP's confirmation that he is leading discussions to bring provinces and territories together to advance practical measures to enforce our laws. With police leaders and frontline representatives now adding their voices, this must move forward without delay. You can read their full letter below: cpa-acp.ca/sites/default/fil…
