We @BethTzedec join all Canadians in mourning the tragic loss of life at @CanadianForces Base Wainwright. And we add to our prayers those who were injured and are recovering. May God comfort the mourners and their families, and heal the wounded. Amen.

Yesterday evening, our Jewish community and allies gathered at @BethTzedec to mark three years since the October 7 massacre. It was a deeply emotional evening, coming together to remember the innocent lives lost, honour their memory, and stand together with the families and communities who continue to grieve.
We carry their memories with us. We will never forget.
Am Yisrael Chai.

Three years after October 7, the Jewish calendar offers another way to remember: a king at the door asking, "Stay one more day. Your parting is hard for me." On Rashi, Lee Yaron, and the families teaching us that memory lives at the table.

Synagogues erecting security fences to minimize the potential of a shooting or some other kind of attack by evil, Jew hating scum. What have Canadians & those we’ve elected to run our country, province, & city allowed this city, province, & country to become?
If you aren’t campaigning loudly & voting against those feckless politicians who’ve presided over this continually deteriorating state of affairs as it relates to Jewish safety, you’re complicit in it #topoli

MATOT-MASEI: The text details all 42 stops of the Israelites’ 40-year journey - as this past week marked 1,000 days since October 7, 2023. @RebSteve of @BethTzedec (tinyurl.com/yr7njjae) cites Hasidic master R. Nachman of @breslovdotorg that “each [stop] had a purpose…” (1/2)

2/3 Last summer Hartman cancelled. I took wife to Winnipeg where I grew up. Retired elevator repairman remembered my dad. I stood at mother's grave 5th time in 44 years. Showed up at childhood shul on 45th BM anniversary without planning it. The unnamed stops. Don't leave you.

Parashat Matot-Masei lists 42 wilderness stops. Nearly half appear nowhere else in the Bible. No story. No miracle. Just a name.
Rebbe Nachman says those are the ones that shaped the soul most.
I think he's right. 🧵

Working hard to ensure our values are at table Global Jewish People. Task Force Combating Antisemitism, meeting of Government Relations Committee lobbying Israeli Gov. and Aliyah of Bnai Menashe related to the committee I chair Aliyah and Absorbtion. @BethTzedec @JewishAgency
On the agenda just this morning at the @JewishAgency Board of Governors meeting: discussing combating antisemitism with @JeremyLeibler, promoting Aliyah for the Bnei Menashe, and expert analysis of Israel’s upcoming elections. And of course, seeing my friends representing MERCAZ and Masorti/Conservative Jews, their values, and their communities from around the world.
Often during the elections for the World Zionist Congress, I was asked ‘Okay, there’s the Congress, but what about over the following five years? Why does my vote matter?’ The answer lies in gatherings like this. Because here in each committee and conversation - whether on how JAFI engages with the Israeli government, or how it spends its money, or what programs it prioritizes - your vote is what gives us the representation and power to speak up and make sure you and your values are represented.
