MSG's latest statement regarding the cancellation of the Watch Party outside the Garden for Game 4: "Madison Square Garden and the New York Knicks declined to use the permit that was granted by Mayor Mamdani's office due to the fact that only 1,000 people would be allowed to enter the area and they would need to be ticketed, leaving the tens of thousands of people who want to come to The Garden to celebrate the Knicks out in the cold. We did not think it was fair to just allow a small group to celebrate outside The Garden when everybody else was being shut out." I mean, you can't make this stuff up. First of all, according to the permit application submitted to the Mayor's office, Dolan requested approval for 1,000 people. He received approval for 1,000 people. Secondly, the idea that Dolan heroically/valiantly shut down the watch party because he didn't want any fans left "out in the cold" is a laughable, absurd justification. Dolan’s decision is clearly a publicity stunt driven by pettiness in his public feud with Mamdani. Only 19,000 fans can fit inside MSG for the actual game. Millions of New Yorkers would love to be there. Should the Knicks cancel Game 4, or play it in an empty gym, because not everyone can attend?!? The reality is that 1,000 fans could have had an unforgettable experience celebrating their favorite team outside the World’s Most Famous Arena. Instead, they get screwed.
