The Daily Express is the Daily Meghan Markle, the Daily extreme weather alert and the Daily nuclear bomb threat. It’s less a newspaper and more a panic attack with a royal family section and molten lava coloured weather map and a photo of Vladimir Putin or a mushroom cloud.

She'll be hoping that licking Labour's arse might get her recommended for a peerage - Baroness Strurgeon of Toom Tabard? - in recognition of her decade of being a safe pair of hands for the English political hegemony over Scotland, to whose say-so she subjected OUR sovereignty

I wonder how long it will take people to realise that any group within the SNP which might be effective in changing the party's approach to the constitutional issue would surely be outlawed by the leadership. Do I come across as cynical? Well, so I should be. I have been watching the sport of bandwagon-jumping for too long to be easily impressed no matter how brightly painted the latest bandwagon may be. If I have learned to lower my expectations, it's because I've been so consistently disappointed over many years. I will ask questions about what this new group proposes. I will be told I am being 'negative'. I will not be told what this new group proposes. I will be expected to support this new group for no other reason than that it is a new group which uses the word 'independence' a lot. I've seen it all before.

Swinney’s acceptance last week that he could do nothing on independence because “Westminster is in charge” was pretty treasonous too.

The government spent five years trying to keep these names secret. We spent five years refusing to let it. That’s what reader-funded journalism makes possible. We don’t give up on a story, and we’re not finished with this one Back us for £50 a year democracyforsale.substack.co…

As @TransparencyUK 's Duncan Hames says “the public have right to know who was fast-tracked [to VIP Lane] and on whose say-so. "Five years of resisting disclosure has been a prolonged and unnecessary failure of transparency, and it has only deepened the damage to public trust"

Democracy for Sale's @JennaCorderoy first asked for all names of VIP Lane firms and politicians who referred them in 2021 The government refused. It took years of appeals, a tribunal ruling and an intervention from Info Commissioner - but now we have them. So what's there?

Nicola Sturgeon can recount every detail of a conversation 10 years ago with Donald Trump, but apparently has “no knowledge or memory” of a £124k motorhome her ex husband bought with SNP money and parked at her mother-in-law’s for two years.
Nicola Sturgeon has revealed a 'mad' conversation she had with US president Donald Trump while she was Scotland's first minister 👀

"There are no Nazis in Ukraine," they say…
Ukrainians march with a portrait of Stepan Bandera, chanting "Ukraine above all". Bandera, a Ukrainian nationalist who ordered the slaughter of 100,000+ Polish civilians.

The year is 1746. You live in the Highlands, weeks after Culloden. The redcoats burn your house and drive the cattle of the glen down to Fort Augustus, 2,000 at a time, where dealers up from Yorkshire buy them by the lump. You walk to the camp to beg for one cow back for the children and are turned away at the gate. The old die of hunger on the bare hillside while the Duke of Cumberland holds horse races on the flat ground below. The year is 1847. You live in Ireland, a country that lived off its cattle until conquest handed the herds to the landlords and left you an acre of potatoes. The potatoes have rotted black in the ground. The ships leaving for England are loaded to the rails with cattle, pigs and butter, and your neighbours are found dead in the ditches with their mouths stained green from eating grass. A million die. The man running relief from the Treasury, Charles Trevelyan, writes that the famine will bring about a salutary revolution in the habits of a nation. He is knighted for his work. The year is 1905. You are Herero, in what is now Namibia, a people whose whole life is cattle. The German general has ordered every Herero shot, with or without cattle, and the rest driven into the desert to die of thirst. In the camp at Swakopmund the women are made to boil the heads of the dead and scrape them clean with shards of glass, for shipping to universities in Germany. Four Herero in five die. The survivors are forbidden by law to own a cow. The year is 1932. You are Kazakh. The Party has taken your herds and sent them to feed Moscow and Leningrad, and the bodies along the roads are stacked like firewood. You pull a sled across the steppe with your dead child on it, and if you run for China the border guards shoot you. Four Kazakhs in ten die, and the ones left become a minority in their own country. The year is 2026. You milk cows in County Cork, where the cattle sailed for England while your great-great-grandparents chewed grass in the ditch, and your own government has modelled culling nearly 200,000 dairy cows to meet a climate target. Take a people's animals and hunger does the rest. The redcoats knew it. The Treasury knew it. The general and the Party knew it. Ireland learned it in a ditch with grass in its mouth, and is now drawing up the list itself.
