🚨 IN FULL AND UNCUT 🚨 πŸŽ‰ My maiden speech at @harrow_council, laying into the Mayor of London's Draft London Plan. 🏘️ We need to build more houses, but outer London is not inner London. πŸš‚ The designation of "well-connected" stations is deeply inaccurate. @HAConservatives @HarrowWestCA @CityHallTories @Councillorsuzie

The bank profit surcharge is being doubled from 3% to 6% for 15 months. If you believe that cost won't be passed on to customers, especially those with loans & overdrafts, then I have a bridge to sell you! #Budget2026
Your bank will no more pay the bank levy than your TV set pays the licence free, your car the road duty or your house the council tax. This tax will fall on all of us as borrowers or depositors. Banks can only COLLECT taxes, not PAY them. All taxes fall on humans. #Budget2026

The government's big idea on AI is that they will give money to the trade unions via more for the "union learning fund" - we are doomed.

Echoes here of the Tories' attempts to cushion the blow of rising costs. The 'breathing space' was completely swallowed up by the price rises. (Eg Β£100 off bills for council tax bands A-D, but Cornwall think energy price cap going up by Β£276...

BREAKING * John Healey announces that Β£100 will be paid to 20million households in council tax bands A to D. That's much more generous than previously expected * He confirms that the VAT cut on electricity bills will be extended to July * Gas standing charges will be scrapped, similar reforms will follow on electricity bills * He pledges to scrap green levies on energy bills

When Sunak did this the Valuation Office was overwhelmed with challenges to their banding.
The check your council tax band tool on gov.uk has crashed...

So Healey (correctly) reverses Reeves’s unfair limit on ISA investments.

Is this really going to help? It didn’t work when Rishi Sunak did it and it won’t work now.
This winter for 20million households council tax A to D - Β£100 for energy bills. Paid directly into people’s bank accounts Β£2.6bn scheme

When Margaret Thatcher left Number 10 in November 1990, the UK's debt : GDP ratio was roughly 22%-26% (depending on the specific calculation). That was down significantly from around 42% to 43.6%, when she first took office in 1979. Today, UK debt : GDP stands at roughly 95%.

πŸ€” The removal of standing charges on gas bills…sounds good doesn’t it? πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ On the face of it, yes, in general bills might be lower - but here’s the catch… 🀨 If you are a β€˜higher consumer’ (meaning someone that uses gas for heating, cooking, hot water etc) then your energy bill is about to go UP. That’s cause they are putting the fixed daily cost on to the Unit Rate. πŸ₯ΆNext week in large parts of the UK, the temperature is going to get close to freezing. Because of these changes, if you live there and heat your home with gas and want to turn on the central heating…Labour just made your life much more difficult and far more expensive.

Student loans were sold to students as "you'll earn more, so it's only fair you pay some of that back towards your education cost" Unless changed, of the five plans students are on - three of the repayment thresholds will now be *below* the minimum wage.
Britain’s new minimum wage: Β£27,456 a year. Higher-rate income tax kicks in at Β£50,270. Wage compression the Soviet Union could only have dreamed of.

Highest taxes on record in the country’s history and nothing works, public services are broken, the economy is stagnant at best, society is fractured and more tax is apparently the solution.
