They’re focusing on this so we don’t ask why the city government defunded the fire department or why a single family in California has been able to consolidate control of vast amounts of water that they use to the tune of 150 billion gallons a year.

taking away people’s ID & debit cards & housing applications is functionally the most egregious (yes, SF literally does this) but to me it’s always felt more viscerally horrific to read when govts take away the small keepsakes that remind homeless people that they’re human beings
We asked people who lived in homeless encampments that were cleared out in city “sweeps” to write about what object was the hardest for them to lose.
“They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries,” a 29-year-old in California wrote.

Answer below: They took my baby pictures and my moms obituaries That was in my Duffel Bag. They also took my leather motorcycle vest worth 300$+ and my whole tent setup.

Just to be clear, the NYPD's massive presence on the subway didn't:
1. prevent a woman from being set on fire.
2. identify the person who did it.
3. didn't stop the fire. (note that video shows an NYPD officer walking by the woman while she is still moving)

NYPD Commish Tisch says NYPD Transit took a person of interest into custody earlier this afternoon. Says the ID came from high schoolers on the subway.
Tisch also says MTA employee with a fire extinguisher put out the flames, but it was too late. teapaw.org/i/broadcasts/1vAGROrEg…

We need to call privatization what it is: adding a profit tax on to a public good. A public post office puts all it's resources towards delivering mail. A privatized post office will diver a large chunk of it's income to shareholders. In what universe is that better?

You can kill schoolchildren, you can kill whistleblowers, you can kill random homeless people, but god forbid you kill a CEO. Things gotta change, we can't do this anymore.

The act of denying life-saving treatment to someone because of their lack of ability to pay for it is, in fact, murder. You are deliberately killing someone. Denying chemo coverage to a man with treatable cancer and letting it metastasize is an insurance company killing a person.
