There's still lots to do but "150 Seconds: Disaster On A Sunday Afternoon" is starting to feel a bit more real. Though in my naivety I thought a second book might be a little easier... @colinsutton @FirstFalklands @StainesMiddx @PatrickHHoy @MaxK_J @Gemma_Lavender

American should buy Alaska and let Alaska's team run it. I said it in August. Former United CEO Oscar Muñoz now agrees. He said of Alaska CEO Ben Minicucci: “From what I hear, he’s a great operator who understands that airlines aren’t just airplanes and schedules, but they’re people serving people.” AA has great assets, but it keeps trying to be a low-cost leader in a revenue world. It needs a management team that can craft a coherent strategy and change the culture to make it real. Alaska has shown it can adapt: last week's lie-flat 737s, premium economy and global expansion are a huge leap from its regional low-cost past. I hope Minicucci and team get the chance to do it at a bigger scale.

This is the big-airline deal where I would put the smaller company in charge. American supplies scale and widebodies. Alaska supplies better execution and the management team I trust more. The fleets work: lots of 737s, complementary A321s and a shared 787 future.

People believe airlines are tracking their searches because it’s a simple explanation for a frustratingly common phenomenon and it conforms to their (very understandable!) priors about the lengths airlines will go to nickel and dime them. There are just two problems: 1. It’s not true. 2. They latch on to “hacks” like VPNs & clearing cookies rather than focusing on what really matters: being flexible to capitalize on cheaper fares and using sites like Google Flights to find them.

If you’re on the blue butterfly place, I’ve just followed a few familiar faces there via SkyBridge. Follow-backs welcome. I’m not leaving X, but with some people moving across, I’ll try to be present in both 🙂

QANTAS EXECUTIVES TO LOSE A350 PROJECT SUNRISE FIRST CLASS TRAVEL PERKS Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace has informed current and former directors and executives that positive-space First Class travel privileges will NOT apply on the airline’s new A350s, which will operate the ultra-long-haul Project Sunrise routes from Sydney and Melbourne to London and New York. The policy applies across the board — including Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson. Executives will still be able to use their perks on the A380 First Class cabin (14 seats), but the A350 First Class will be limited to just SIX seats, featuring an all-new premium concept with a separate seat and bed, tailored for the world’s longest nonstop flights. With such a tiny First Class cabin and the need to sell seats at very high fares to make Project Sunrise financially viable, Qantas is prioritising commercial reality over executive privilege. Info via onemileatatime. But what do you think on this move by the International CEO?

It's not as big a step as I expected, but this is definitely BA conceding a shortfall in their loyalty program. @JSS779 @PatrickHHoy
Judging by the reaction to the news re BA’s loyalty scheme - and taking into account the changed balance between corporate and “luxury leisure” travel - I’m going to suggest BA will revise the tier thresholds within the next 12 months. Thoughts @MicheleTLFL @paul_winginit ?
