I appreciate Neil's perspective and usually agree with him. In this case, though, I think he is arbitrarily assigning something magical and special to "intuition" much like we do to concepts like "sentience." I think this reflects our personal desire to have something unique to humans that machines can't replicate no matter how smart and experienced they become. Truth is that there are no infants out there who have expert level medical intuition without any experience. And machines can accumulate vastly more experience than individual humans in a given field. If they ultimately become "smarter" than humans and have vastly more experience do we really think they won't match our intuition?

For years we were reluctant to offer symptomatic patients with ADPKD laparoscopic or robotic decortication due to perioperative morbidity. Traditional lap or robotic transperitoneal ADPKD decortication was associated with ileus and severe peritoneal irritation due to cyst fluid spillage. Today, regionalized decortication via single-site low anterior robotic access changes that equation for the better. #SP #ADPKD #polycystickidneydisease #decortication

Pure retroperitoneal ureteral access using the low anterior approach with da Vinci SP is a powerful and versatile technique for managing a wide range of ureteral strictures. These procedures can often be performed with PACU discharge and are more efficient and less morbid than transperitoneal approaches to the ureter.
