As eastern marxist as it possibly gets (CPC, 1982): redsails.org/on-the-question…
western marxists vehement and reflexiv rejection of religion is an expression of their latent but pervasive eurocentrism. they grew up with the most genocidal, irrational, anti-human, hollowed out and fascism-supporting faith system in history (western christianity) and

The destruction of communist self-esteem takes two acts: 1) Demonize leadership: "The evil cabal was hoodwinking the poor yet noble masses with unachievable promises…" Then, after workers are without leaders: 2) Deride masses: "Hustle like a boss or be left behind, sheeple…"

Much of what "progressives" in the West try pass off as "grassroots" or "radical" art is usually marinated in anarchist aesthetics, and is really just Act 1 of this process. This is why when Act 2 comes around they do nothing but resort to the most maudlin appeals to conscience.

I've always said that these right-wing govts in Latin America are the most fragile we've seen in a generation. They're all approaching single digit approval ratings within 3 months max. They were 'elected' by foreign intervention and are rapidly impoverishing their populations.

BTW this was indirectly about "Digger" and every other "prestige critique" out there. It doesn't matter how "harshly" you portray the rich and powerful, giving them protagonism advances *their* agency. Any bit of media lionizing America's enemies is incomparably more dangerous.
Only one kind of media project is politically useful today: people work together, achieve victory. Imagine *firmly* positive films about the October Revolution, China's Long March, Fidel's guerillas, Vietnam, or even a teacher's union. The "cynical critique" genre is worthless.

This is why I hate that stupid ahistorical Vonnegut quote. You know who *actually* put in the work? Paul Robeson. Dalton Trumbo. They sang and wrote about slave uprisings and anti-imperialism *during the Cold War*, and paid the price. Vonnegut and his ilk? Jokers by comparison.

PS. If you're one of those who thinks "Come and See" is a good example of cynical-yet-effective Communist propaganda i.e. a counter-example to my demand for upbeat heroism, do yourself favour and read the Wikipedia page of its writer Ales Adamovich. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ales_A…

This is why I liked The Creator so much. There was villainization of the white west, but the majority of the film was about the lionization of anti-western Asia

H.G. Wells on Stalin : “I confess that I approached Stalin with a certain suspicion and prejudice. A picture had been built up in my mind of a very reserved and self-centred fanatic, a despot without vices, a jealous monopolizer of power. I had been led to believe by various people that he was all these things, and also that he had something of the dark fanatical quality of Savonarola. I found on the contrary a man surprisingly different from my preconception. I expected to find a rather ruthless, hard, perhaps even sullen man. Instead I found a quiet-spoken, seemingly very restrained and amiable man, with a gentle voice and a ready, easy laugh. There was no malice in him, no fear, and, so far as I could judge, no hate. I have never met a man more candid, fair and honest, and to these qualities it is, and to nothing occult and sinister, that he owes his tremendous undisputed ascendancy in Russia. I had thought before I saw him that he might be where he was because men were afraid of him, but I realize that he owes his position to the fact that no one is afraid of him and everybody trusts him.”

Some people don't understand why Marco Rubio is so extremely pro-colonialist, because he is technically of Cuban descent. But it's important to understand that Rubio does NOT see himself as Cuban. He constantly emphasizes that he is of Spanish (and Italian) descent. In his latest speech in Greece, in which he again heaped praise on Western colonialism, Rubio proudly described himself as "a great-grandson of settlers who arrived in the new world from Spain". He heroized European colonialists Hernán Cortés and Christopher Columbus. Rubio does NOT see his family as Cuban; he sees his ancestors as European colonialists who temporarily lived in Cuba (as wealthy, light-skinned elites who supported the right-wing US puppet dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista), before re-settling in Florida. This, in fact, is exactly how many conservative, pro-imperialist elites in Latin America see themselves, by the way.
There are still useful idiots out there who deny that the US is an empire. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio just gave another explicitly pro-colonialist speech, boasting that the US is a "continental empire". He proudly identified the origins of the US empire in the colonization of North America. He totally erased the Indigenous peoples who lived there, referring to it as an "open and wild land" at the time of colonization. Rubio waxed poetic on the "American frontier spirit", with no mention of the millions of Native Americans who died in the largest genocide in human history. Rubio also praised the genocidal colonialists Christopher Columbus and Hernán Cortés. Rubio traced the origins of the US empire back to Alexander the "Great", whom he heroized for "conquer[ing] the entire known world". The US empire has tried to do exactly the same, on top of many millions of corpses. (This is the official transcript of Rubio's speech: state.gov/releases/office-of…)

It bothers me how utterly false this is. It's like seeing a person you *know* only eats chicken nuggets described as a snooty elitist. American media plots are nothing but holes, always excused with "turn your brain off it's just a movie" or "it's about the emotion and vibes".
In film studies, our prof once went on a rant abt how we have to "de-americanize" our view of art. iirc "Americans are obsessed with plot. Form, function, feeling, they ignore it all to ask if the plot is believable or logical. All they care about is outsmarting the artist."

Scorcese won an Oscar for this. It was a box office hit and topped critic lists. It's not just recent MCU garbage that relies on "brains turned off". xitter.cf/ExpertsLie/status/2107…
"The Departed" is a pretty silly movie. Jack Nicholson gets worried about a cop in his crew. His crew is like 5 guys where 4 of them don't really speak English and one of them is brand new and just dropped out of the state police academy

1) It's fine for Marxism to be compared with religion. Discipline, rituals, values… call it Sittlichkeit and it's perfectly secular. 2) Merely understanding—not *agreeing*, just *getting*—Marxism is a completely irreversible process, like understanding gravity or evolution.
Marxists are legitimately religious people who think that if you read their holy texts earnestly, you immediately have to convert to their religion. If you don't, your inability to see God's light just makes you very dull. In the same way believers cannot accept anyone reading the Bible/Quran and not coming off convinced without a backhanded insult. Every educated person knows who the gravedigger is supposed to be according to Marx and why. I was indirectly asking a meta question about why they're not digging the grave and why people like you are necessary. But the "READ MARX!!1" tic is just too strong for the faithful, as if a certain Lenin didn't already feel forced to conclude the proletariat are never going to do the revolution on their own and that the vanguard is needed to nudge them into this direction.

I think the new conditions of the world will bring with themselves a new kind of confident ruthlessness, very Leninist in style, and confusingly diverse for reactionaries ("You support both queers and Palestine!?!?"). It will be decried as zealotry, and it won't matter.

Class struggle exists and drives human society whether you get it or not. xitter.cf/emethias/status/210875…
Real material forces (like gravity or compute limits) exist whether you "get" them or not. Claiming that disagreement equals "lack of understanding" is how religions protect their dogmas from empirical reality too.

And for those who like to say Marxism is a science, any scientific literature is a way of encoding reality into digestible formulae and examples to make it comprehensible. Works from any field will be total gibberish if you don't learn the terms, meanings, relations etc.

I really think people need to stop worrying so much about appearing dogmatic. They should not *be* dogmatic, but who cares if it "appears" that way? You know what Physicists do to people who loudly disagree with basic Physics consensus at Physics conferences? They kick them out.
