THE CAT IN THE HAT is a wildly funny and absolutely wonderful movie. It’s oozing with pure joy and creativity. The themes and messages at the heart of the film are beautiful and perfect for both children and adults. Lots of Lego Movie, Monster Inc. And Spider-Verse in its DNA.

HELLO?!?! If you think like this please never ever call yourself a critic and especially not a journalist. If the studio does not want this to happen, then they should not do public screenings before the embargo lifts. Period. Full stop. End of story.
Technically allowed ≠ consequence-free, kids. (I ain't paying for long Twitter)

I am not saying this to be a jerk or self-aggrandizing or whatever, I just really want all of you who claim to be critics who are yelling at that guy to realize you're being clowned by the studios. That is not how it works, and they're playing games with you.
One more thing on Clayface: I have worked at Deadline, THR, the Associated Press, and People Magazine to name several….not a single one of them views embargoes the way the people bashing this critic/defending WB do. An embargo requires you to agree. Explicitly.

Really disheartening, amidst CLAYFACE Embargo-Gate, to see people calling for a journalist's access to be revoked when we should be questioning why the PUBLIC is able to see and ostensibly discuss the movie before the embargo has lifted.

I think more of us should be questioning the studio because there will *always* be someone willing to put themselves in a position to post a reaction/review first. WB created the scenario for this to happen at the end of the day.
I guess my question is…why did the studio schedule an early Clayface screening right before the embargo, knowing that Letterboxd would be flooded with reviews, and that audiences would read those and not the critics abiding by the embargo (given the Letterboxd discourse)?

Can we just f**king get Batman please. Then we can do this villain stuff. It cannot be that hard to pull together a compelling story about one of the world’s most famous superheroes.

If a studio does not want to have reviews ahead of a film's embargo, such as Clayface, maybe don't host a public screening with paid tickets ahead of that date. Crazy thought, I know.

WILDWOOD is incredible. Every fiber of the film is creative, inventive, and emotional. It’s a world you’ll want to be lost in long after the credits roll. The third act alone is easily one of the greatest achievements in modern cinema—and I don’t say that lightly.

WHALEFALL is incredibly intense and will have you holding your breath the whole time. Austin Abrams is fantastic and completely sells his imminent peril at every moment. I know it’s cliché to say, but you have to see this in theaters for the sound design alone—it’s next level.

IN A VIOLENT NATURE 2 is easily one of the most violent movies I’ve ever seen, with some gnarly kills. Fans of the first movie will be pleased with the carnage. This time around the focus is less on Johnny’s POV and more on a character-centric approach through a camper.

BEWARE BOIÚNA is an absolutely wonderful creature feature. Director Mike P. Nelson does an incredible job creating tension, subverting expectations, and giving a visceral experience—with one hell of a killer snake. Jessica Rothe and Kiana Madeira are still iconic scream queens.

RESIDENT EVIL is clearly made by someone who loves the games. Austin Abrams is incredible, and once the movie starts, it never lets up. It is funnier than I expected, but still has some legit scares. There are plenty of monsters for fans to sink their teeth into as well.

FORGOTTEN ISLAND is an insanely chaotic and endearing film brimming with energy in every moment. The film has such a vibrant soul, fueled by its wonderfully creative animation style, culminating into a story offering a powerful celebration of friendship.

I was pleasantly surprised with BY ANY MEANS. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Mark Wahlberg are the life of the film. Their dynamic and performances excel at every turn. Sure, the movie may be telling a familiar story, but when done well, that’s far from a bad thing.

LANTERNS is easily my favorite project in the DCU so far. The character work is phenomenal, and truly is the core of the show. Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler are the perfect picks for John Stewart and Hal Jordan—and their dynamic is endlessly entertaining.

Yes, the show makes some silly small changes, and all the space stuff almost entirely takes a backseat, but what LANTERNS offers at the end of the day makes it all more than worth it.
