Nearly 1 million young people in the UK are NEET – not in education, employment or training.
Defence offers more apprenticeships and work experience than almost any other industry, and by 2035, we will offer opportunities and good jobs for 50,000 young people every single year.

I visited and spoke with specialists from the defence technology company Thales UK near Belfast. It is precisely here that Starstreak and LMM/Martlet air-defence missile systems are manufactured – systems we actively used to shoot down Russian Ka-52s and other enemy helicopters during the early stages of the full-scale invasion. These missiles are still widely used by the Defence Forces of Ukraine as short-range air defence weapons against Shaheds and other targets.
The well-known NLAW anti-tank systems are also assembled at the Thales UK plant in Belfast. Ukraine and Thales UK have already established a long-term industrial partnership. All of this represents long-term investment, not a one-off transfer of weapons. This model also serves the interests of the United Kingdom: Ukrainian orders are already helping to scale up missile production at Thales UK in Belfast and restore the UK’s industrial air defence capabilities.
So I will repeat what I recently said at the investment forum in London: for the United Kingdom and British companies, this is not only about supporting Ukraine – it is also an investment in their own national defence.
Thank you @PeterKLamb for visiting us last week to see the work our Crawley-based teams do at the cutting edge of technology, delivering world-leading capabilities to our armed forces and allies.
Excellent to see the remarkable new technology now being delivered at Thales in Crawley last week, and to meet the apprentices who will go on to deliver the technology of the future.

For many organisations, moving sensitive applications to the cloud raises one critical question: who controls the keys?
Thales is launching a UK-hosted Cloud HSM to help customers meet UK sovereignty, data residency and governance requirements while retaining control of their cryptographic keys.

Exclusive:
Iran shut down a British power plant for four days in an unprecedented cyber attack, @Telegraph can reveal tonight.
It is thought to be the first time that hackers affiliated to the Iranian regime have succeeded in closing down such a facility in the UK, and believed to be the most successful cyber attack of its kind.
The incident took place at the same time as a series of attacks on US water infrastructure that affected 12 states last month.
The British attack was on a small electricity producer and had no adverse effect on national power generation or supply.
But it demonstrates the power of Iranian hackers to infiltrate and shut down national infrastructure.
In response, the Government has briefed energy CEOs on how to keep their facilities safe.

Water off a duck’s back.
My message to every single young person who worries about encountering this sort of thing in their lives and careers is simple: we are stronger, they are weaker, and the future is brighter.

NEW: Andy Burnham will kick off his summer tour of the UK in the coming week.
The PM tells @MirrorPolitics: “This month I'm out of Westminster and into your town. Not for the photographs, but because I want to hear directly from people in their communities.
“I'll be asking one question: what would actually make your life better?
“We know a lot of the issues. People have been saying it for years and no one listened. Bills that land like a threat. A high street of shuttered units and rip-off prices.”
