✨ New Article: #AAASmtg Highlights! ✨ @aaas is where science and policy meet, and this year’s Science @ Scale theme brought big ideas from across the research landscape. From climate and public health to biomedical innovation, it was inspiring to step outside our usual orbit—and even convert a few particle physicists into organ‑on‑chip fans. This year, we saw real momentum for non‑animal, human‑relevant science. SAO’s Gabby Vidaurre, PhD delivered a standout Postdoc Talk on our Research Modernization NOW #SciPol roadmap, and AI‑driven innovations took center stage—from lung‑ultrasound interpretation to exposome analytics. The SNAP Coalition made AAAS history with the first‑ever graduate student–led plenary, and science‑integrity icon @MicrobiomDigest reminded us why integrity is essential to all of what we do. ⬇️ Read the full recap, also featuring @AnimaAnandkumar of @CaltechEAS, @ThomasHartung19 of @jhucaat, and researchers from @ASU, @asuhealth, and @tue_mech: linkedin.com/pulse/sao-actio…

Thank you, @ABATIPS / @ABATIPSALC, for the invitation to speak in last week's subcommittee meeting. When students are told that being uncomfortable with harming animals means they’re “not cut out” for science, we push away some of the brightest—and certainly most compassionate—future innovators. Thankfully there are amazing new initiatives showing young scientists that rigorous research and compassion aren’t opposing forces. And that’s exactly the kind of science the world needs more of.

Great to see animal methods bias gaining wider recognition in the scientific community — and thank you for citing our 2023 survey on this issue! See that survey here: doi.org/10.14573/altex.22102… We recently replicated those findings in India: doi.org/10.1016/j.namjnl.202…

"We must stop throwing good money after bad. As sepsis survivor Chrissy Matthies put it: “Human patients battling this life-threatening condition – and the animals who are tormented in worthless and wasteful experiments – deserve no less.”" - @juliabaines1 In @the_ecologist: theecologist.org/2025/oct/22… Please sign @PETAUK's petition asking the @ukhomeoffice to reject new applications for sepsis experiments on animals: secure.peta.org.uk/page/1736…

We’ll be expanding on this and other recommendations as a part of an initiative to urge journals to take action to help address animal methods bias. Stay tuned for more on that as it develops! And tell us: Has a reviewer ever suggested you perform an extra experiment?
