🌍 YOUTH ARE SHAPING THE SADC WE WANT.
At the 2026 SADC People’s Summit in Durban, Youth Accountability Initiative Africa (YAI), supported by @TrustAfrica, joined other youth organisations to deliberate, organise and articulate young people’s demands.
From governance and natural resource accountability to civic space, young people worked collectively on a Youth Communiqué to carry their priorities to SADC Heads of State.
Youth participation must mean more than being in the room. It must mean shaping decisions and demanding accountability.
We are not just the future of SADC. We are shaping its present.

At the #SADCPeoplesSummit , SARW Programmes Manager Dr Kabaso Kabwe delivered the State of the SADC Region Address from a resource governance perspective.
Her challenge was clear:
The energy transition may change the strategic value of Africa’s minerals. It does not automatically change who sets the terms.
Who controls finance, processing and infrastructure?
Who captures the value?
Who carries the risk?
SARW’s response is also practical:
Africa Mining Accountability Platform (AMAP) — community evidence, accountability and remedy: app.sarwatch.co.za/
African Critical Minerals Atlas (ACMA) — mapping the wider geography of extraction, corridors, infrastructure and value capture:
experience.arcgis.com/experi…
PAMOJA Critical Minerals Alliance — regional community and civil-society mobilisation for collective action.
sarwatch.co.za/download/7247…
The goal is economic sovereignty, beneficiation, stronger regional value chains and citizen power.
The test is whether Southern Africans are better off because those minerals were extracted.

If I am not mistaken, the SADC Model Law on PFM must have been unanimously adopted in July 2022 by the SADC PF

Yes by SADC PF, countries had to ascend and move towards domestication. SA refused, for Zim coincidentally there was that PFMA Ammendment Bill so some provisions were taken up, Zambia’s system had various pieces that needed harmonisation, process was a bit slow & cumbersome.

After adoption is domestication (implementation) which is what as the SADC PF is advocating for the SADC member states to undertake and also raise awareness amongst various sectors so that other stakeholders can understand and drive collectively.

Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development joins over 28 civil society organisations and social justice movements in demanding urgent and transformative action on the worsening sovereign debt crisis devastating millions of lives across Africa and beyond.
At a time when governments are spending more on debt repayments than on healthcare, education, food systems and social protection, debt justice has become a matter of survival, dignity and human rights.
Communities should not continue paying the price for an unjust global financial system that deepens poverty, weakens public institutions and forces countries into endless cycles of austerity and dependency.
We stand in solidarity with calls for:
• Comprehensive debt cancellation and fair restructuring
• Binding participation of private creditors
• Immediate suspension of IMF surcharges
• Reform of the global debt architecture
• An African-led and people-centred financial future
The world cannot continue placing profits before people.
Debt relief is justice.
Debt justice is liberation.
