This day will always be the defining moment of my life. Over the years, I have tried to properly express what this day did to my family, my community, and our country. However, I have fallen short. The redistricting bill has passed the House by a vote of 74-37.
For over 27 hours across 3 days of debate, Democrats fought to stop Republicans from cheating voters by redrawing congressional districts.
H. 5683 now goes to the Senate.
Republicans just silenced our voices by ramming through an unprecedented change to the rules in the middle of the game.
We are now limited to 1 amendment per representative with strict time limits in order to push through the new congressional map.
We’ll keep fighting when the debate restarts at 10:00am.
