A country's investment ambitions need financing. Where does the money come from?
IMF data for 2016–2025 tell a clear story:
🇿🇲 Zambia: national savings averaged 35.2% of GDP, broadly matching investment at 34.3%.
🇲🇼 Malawi: savings averaged −4.1%, while investment averaged 9.8%.
Malawi's investment–saving gap means greater reliance on foreign capital — often on terms it cannot control.
