Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of Officer Michael Horan in Greensboro, NC. This senseless violence reminds us of the dangers officers face daily. Our prayers are with his family, friends, & colleagues.💙 #officerdown @GLFOP

If you are evacuating north from Florida for #Milton, these are some of the good choices to go to, as well as where NOT to go (due to residual impacts from #Helene). Green - Good choice Yellow - City is OK but hotel space may be scarce due to impacts nearby Red - Not a good idea

UPDATE: The Town of Fort Myers Beach has issued a Mandatory Evacuation for the entire Island. "We encourage residents and business owners to make a plan and be evacuated by 3:00pm, on Monday, October 7, 2024. The Hurricane Re-entry Pass Program will be implemented following Hurricane Milton. If you are not a resident, please do not try to re-enter the Island as this will only make it more difficult for our residents to get back to their homes."

POWERFUL: Our team has been able to survey some of the damage in Asheville. It’s truly horrific. We stumbled upon this moving moment. A flag found among the debris and muck being folded and cared for. It will be retired from use. More tonight: @NBCNightlyNews #Helene2024 #ncwx

I don't usually get personal here, but the hurricane took out part of my family's home, trapped my grandparents on their farm with no power or service, and completely wiped off the map the town where I *just* got married. Please don't forget Appalachia when talking about Helene. – at North Carolina, USA

There is so much bad and mis guided information out there. I get people are wary. So, I'll share a few things to make sure you have good information. Yes, there is a chance of development in the Gulf of Mexico over the next 7-days. No, it is not currently a threat to the Carolinas. I posted the 10-day tropical storm probabilities and track and 15-day rainfall anomalies. Which shows below-average rainfall for our area in the next 15 days. We don't need any rain, but at some point, it will rain again, and right now, nothing heavy or extreme is expected in the next week to ten days. I'll make sure to keep you posted and keep you updated if things change. #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wcnc

Was able to talk to my husband in Asheville for the first time in over 24 hours today. He sent me this video of the River Arts District near our home. I’m so devastated. I’m so worried about the friends and colleagues who are missing. I’m so heartbroken for my city and all of WNC

⚠️ DO NOT travel to western NC. Rescue crews are continuing to work in impacted areas. Utility crews are also at work to restore power, cell service and other vital infrastructure. Keep the roads clear for them.
