According to new modeling by E2 and BW Research, the OBBBA has directly threatened grid reliability and your monthly power bill. -The US has lost 10GW of solar capacity, 3.75GW of wind capacity, and over 9GW of battery storage from project cancellations since 2025. -That foregone power could have powered ~3 million homes — equivalent to powering all the homes in Massachusetts. At a time when electricity demand is skyrocketing and energy prices are pinching household budgets, pulling the plug on cheap domestic power makes the grid challenge harder. We need more reliable power, not less. Cancelling these projects leaves our grid vulnerable and consumers footing the bill. on.e2.org/cancellations-impa…

A new British Medical Journal study of 310,000 nuclear plant workers from the U.S., U.K., and France shows cancer risk rises as radiation dose rises. The highest per-dose risk is at low doses (0-50 mGy). pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3758…

What explains the GOP's war on colleges? I ask in today's @mcclatchy's @sacbee_news. Sinister motives, I argue. Persuading high school dropouts climate change is a hoax & vaccines don’t work is a lot easier than convincing doctoral-level scientists. news.yahoo.com/why-republica…

I welcome that tripling of #renewables & doubling energy efficiency by 2030 has been recognized by #COP28 as priority #climateaction. This is monumental. @IRENA believe it's the most realistic course-correction to urgently overcome systematic barriers stemming from fossil fuels.
The moment history was made.
Everyone came together from day one. Everyone united, everyone acted and everyone delivered.

The support of carbon capture, synthetic direct air capture, blue hydrogen, electro-fuels, and the greenwash term “net zero” is the exact same as refusing to support a phase out of fossil fuels. All those who support these products and term are guilty
COP28 is now on the verge of complete failure. The world desperately needs to phase out fossil fuels as quickly as possible, but this obsequious draft reads as if OPEC dictated it word for word. It is even worse than many had feared. It is “Of the Petrostates, By the Petrostates and For the Petrostates.” It is deeply offensive to all who have taken this process seriously. There are 24 hours left to show whose side the world is on: the side that wants to protect humanity’s future by kickstarting the orderly phase out of fossil fuels or the side of the petrostates and the leaders of the oil and gas companies that are fueling the historic climate catastrophe. In order to prevent COP28 from being the most embarrassing and dismal failure in 28 years of international climate negotiations, the final text must include clear language on phasing out fossil fuels. Anything else is a massive step backwards from where the world needs to be to truly address the climate crisis and make sure the 1.5°C goal doesn’t die in Dubai.

In reflecting on the absurdity of this "aspirational goal": In the US, it would mean, in addition to maintaining the entire existing fleet, about 190 GW of #nuclear would have to be added over 25 years. That would mean the equivalent of 7 Vogtle units starting up PER YEAR.
EXPANDING CAPACITY: The U.S. and 20+ countries agree to TRIPLE nuclear capacity from 2020 levels by 2050 to secure climate goals at #Cop28!

We never learn from past mistakes We introduced lead, CFCs, asbestos before examining whether they do more harm than good Today, we introduce CCS, DAC, blue H2, electrofuels, SAF & other bioenergy as climate solutions before studying if they reduce or increase CO2/pollution
Every dollar spent on synthetic CDR (carbon capture/direct air capture) does 6 things: Kills more people from air pollution Increases global warming Increases energy insecurity Increases consumer costs Increases fossil mining+infrastructure Increases CO2 pipes+land invasion
