This doctor shared her payslip to show the stark reality NHS doctors face. Fully qualified. Working exhausting 48 hour weeks: nights, evenings, weekends. Regularly uprooted from family, friends and support networks. All to earn just £17.56 an hour. That’s 21% less in real terms than doctors earned in 2008, even though workloads and pressures have only increased. Doctors also now earn nearly £10,000 less than physician assistants; despite having more training, greater responsibility, and higher risk. Doctors are exhausted, demoralised, and leaving the NHS. They’ve had enough. They’re simply asking to move from £17.56/hr to £22.67/hr; and not even all at once @wesstreeting. To protect the NHS, we need to retain and value the doctors who work in it.
