1898: “Packers Ascending the Summit of Chilkoot Pass” is the most iconic photo of the Klondike Gold Rush. An endless single-file line of stampeders snaking up the icy “Golden Stairs”, 1500 narrow stairs cut by hand. At the very top sat the North-West Mounted Police. Their job? Enforce Canada’s brutal “One Ton Law.” Every single person had to prove they were carrying 2,000 lbs (one full ton) of supplies, a year’s food (1,095 lbs minimum) plus tools, clothing, tent, stove, etc. before they were allowed into the Yukon. No supplies? Turned back on the spot. The Mounties weighed outfits at “The Scales” and again at the summit customs shack. Because most men could only carry 50–100 lbs at a time, the average stampeder had to make 20–40 separate ascents (plus the empty-handed returns). That meant walking the equivalent of 800–1,000+ miles just to advance their gear 33 miles from Dyea to Lake Bennett. This endless back-and-forth shuttle often took 6–12 weeks, sometimes up to 3 months, of pure hell in blizzards, -40° cold, and constant avalanche danger. This is far different than the free healthcare, free hotel gimmigrants of today. And the harshest fact of all? The vast majority never found any worthwhile gold. Of the ~100,000 who rushed north, only ~30–40k even reached the Klondike, and just a few hundred actually got rich. Most unsuccessful stampeders either went home broke… or stayed and took wage jobs: chopping wood, hauling freight, bartending, or building Dawson City. This one photo perfectly captures the insane determination, and the brutal reality, of 1898. Real men built this country 🔥

Jared C. Tilton (@tiltoncreative) captured both of these iconic photos, but the backstory of how he did it might be even cooler than the photos themselves. Rather than having a photographer up in the catwalk during all Olympic events — at all the different venues — Jared and his team at Getty Images mounted robotic cameras in the ceiling. Planning began more than a year ago, with installation taking place four weeks before this year's Olympics. But these cameras didn't take photographs on their own. Using proprietary software, Jared sent a live feed to his laptop, which he then used as a first-person POV to snap photos himself. The software worked whether Jared was inside the venue or several miles away at the media center. And here's the best part... Jared operated the entire system with a PlayStation controller.

I have been to 10+ factories across the USA in 45 days… here’s what I learned: - Everyone’s hiring, nobody can find people - Retirements are a tribal knowledge crisis - Language barriers in many factories - World-class robots… but use paper/whiteboards - Same ERPs everywhere, data is siloed, Excel is default - Everyone hates their 30+/yr old ERP, but are locked in - Huge gap between connecting software and hardware - People know about AI, but nobody uses it - Every factory is different (even if owned by same company) - We don't take USA manufacturing seriously enough as a country This gets me fired up. We believe American factories should be a point of pride again, not a story of being squeezed by overseas competition. Harmony exists to help reindustrialize the USA, protect family-owned factories, and strengthen large enterprises.

China makes far too many cars: Lots are full of millions of autos that will never be sold, and yet Beijing has kept letting factories crank them out trib.al/KuyKkxQ

Here’s a science fiction plot line for ya. Amidst a global epidemic that wipes out the earth’s population, it’s up to the people aboard one cruise ship- the only safe place on earth- to repopulate the planet. **Passengers onboard the #Westerdam begin eyeing each other nervously**

or even worse, we can't get on if we are chinese since we have higher exposure to Chinese nationals even when we hold strictly US passports

@cnn @fox5ny @cnbc @RoyalCaribbean please address these questions as we really don't think we'll be able to enjoy the cruise if you enact such a policy. #RoyalCarribean

Justin Bieber is 25, Tom Cruise is 56. Challenge an actor 31 years older than you to a fight. I’ll go first… Sam Waterston, you’re a punk, and due for an ass beating. Name the place.
