💯 great man who did great things. Think about all the children he operated on and all the careers he shaped. Amazing human. I was blessed to know and work with him. Thinking of his family and all pediatric cardiologists and surgeons today!

Only 12 patients but still impressive impact of #exercise on physical capacity AND biomarkers in #HLHS s/p #Fontan after only 30min moderate exercise 3x week x 4 wks. Now that's impressive ROI! @daniel_forsha @SamWittekind @ACTION4HF @mgoschu pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3573…

In 2021, our ♥️-Transplant and VAD teams had a historically busy year. They carried out 48 transplant evals & listed 31 patients - double the numbers from 2020. The VAD team also supported a record number of patients (17) as a bridge to transplant or for chronic therapy. Go team!

Decreased O2 utilization in sk muscle in #Fontan. Responsible for sarcopenia? Authors suggest high CVP as mechanism. I'd hypothesize decreased muscular capillary density. Role for exercise training? @mgoschu @SamWittekind @daniel_forsha @LubertMD pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3462…

The pediatric allocation for heart transplant is better but a 4 yr old rcm is a status 2 and a 1 yr old on milrinone is a 1b. Both may wait for an organ for > a year with this classification. Not good #pedsvad candidates. @ACTION4HF @PHTSociety
How are centers navigating the current pediatric heart allocation system and how can we make it better? This Thursday’s joint ACTION-@PHTSociety virtual learning session tackles this topic: bit.ly/2U7Rjde #TransplantTwitter #PedsTx #DonateLife
