If a Russian attack really was imminent, we would be withdrawing our forces from faraway places and concentrating them where the supposed threat is.
But we aren't - in fact, we've just sent RAF planes to help the authoritarian Saudi regime fight a war in Yemen.
They take us for fools.

We need to Protest and Survive
New government guidelines emphasise the importance of emergency preparations for individual households, ignoring how their own actions are increasing security risks. See our full statement.

The government makes no secret of the fact that further drilling at Jackdaw will not make energy bills go down.
The question is then: why do it?
Will the government admit it is working on behalf of the energy lobbyists rather than the people who voted it in?
A World-first taskforce to protect communities from climate change that doesn't include emergency services, community representation, workers or trade unions.
Is this about militarisation and othering of the climate agenda or real security? 🤔

Jackdaw: a decision for last century. climateuncensored.com/jackda…
A hastily drafted post following the UK Govt’s decision to approve further drilling & production at the Jackdaw gas field in the N.Sea. Please excuse typos, non-sequiturs, etc - I wanted to get the post online today.

We don't "own" anything in the North Sea. All oil will go into a global market & will feed wealthy profiteers. It will provide no benefit to the UK or its people. Gas lighting at a new level by the bought Labour Party. At least the oil money will keep you warm at night.

The government approved the Jackdaw gas field today.
It's sold at the world price, so won't make us secure. Retrofit and renewables would create more jobs and lower bills.
We can afford this. I'll explain how in Alnwick, Thu 29 Oct. All welcome.

A few thoughts on the announcement that the Jackdaw gas field development will go ahead 🧵
You'll hear claims today arguing we need Jackdaw for various reasons. Primarily some combination of energy security, perhaps cheaper bills and jobs. We should be sceptical of them.

War. Austerity. The rise of the far right. These issues are connected and we must challenge them together.

Lots of people chiming in beneath this.
So it’s worth quoting the UK Energy Secretary who told the BBC this morning that “this project does not have an impact on affordability and bills”.

🚨 BREAKING: Almost 9 MILLION people across the UK are at risk of needing a food bank in the next year.
One in five people have run out of food in past year and been unable to afford to buy more.
This cannot continue. The government must act ahead of the Budget to make essentials like food and bills affordable.

So to be clear. Unlike in 2014, when it temporarily ran out, Scotland does have vast reserves of oil and gas. The hypocrisy is staggering. The stupidity is terrifying. The talk of 'pragmatism' in a climate catastrophe is astonishing.
We need workers plans now!! We don't have time to wait for politicians, we're in a #ClimateCrisis Those on the frontline of climate impacts mainly in the global south have no time to wait for rich northern countries. We've been discussing this for years in trade unions.

Unite supports net zero, but NOT a jobless transition.
Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham has been clear in conversations with the Prime Minister that barrelling ahead without concrete plans for workers and the UK's energy security is as far from a "just" transition as we can get. This decision gives us more time to create and fund a concrete plan for commensurate jobs for workers currently working in the North Sea.
"Now we urgently need to use that and invest in industries like wind turbine manufacture and refining green jet fuel. We simply cannot let go of one rope until we have hold of another."
