Tulane DC Tayler Polk, on the jump from co-DC to lead voice: “On game day I’m calling the plays, so all that rah-rah stuff I do is about to go out the window. The point of coaching is getting guys to emulate what you are.” Some fans have doubts. He’s 31. One of the youngest DCs in college football. Never been the sole guy calling a defense. But here’s what I see: 🟢 Troy 2023: school-record 47 sacks, top-15 nationally in sacks, scoring D, rushing D, AND total D 🟢 Was Carlton Martial’s position coach when he became the NCAA FBS all-time leading tackler 🟢 Nine of his Troy defenders earned All-Sun Belt honors in 2023 🟢 Co-coordinated the 2024 Tulane defense, 24th nationally, 20.6 PPG allowed 🟢 As an Ole Miss GA, helped move the rushing D from 110th to 44th nationally 🟢 LBs Chris Rodgers, Dickson Agu, and Makai Williams all bypassed the portal to play for him Will Hall on Polk: “His players always know he is giving them everything he’s got and he loves them and they play their tail off for him.” If you’ve watched him on a Tulane sideline, you already know. If you haven’t, you will.
