Jeremy Corbyn relaunched the new left party this week, but the chaotic and embarrassing way that key figures have acted up until this point raises concerns about its future prospects, argues @SamuraiApology.

The key questions will be over the economy, monarchy, Atlanticism. The Green Right will oppose the policy consequences of an “ecosocialist party” – committing to common ownership of big businesses and banks, a republic, nonalignment by closing all the US bases and leaving NATO.

So we see with LFI and the French Left a different use of the word programme to mean something more like a general election manifesto.
But it acts as a programme in the tradition of a minimum programme for taking power. (Without it being implemented, remain in opposition.)

And the programme – including the proposal for a constituent process –was used as the minimum requirement for forming a government in coalition negotiations after the election. The demand of LFI was that the programme would be implemented in full if it participated in government.

The proposal of much of the French Left (not just LFI, also PCF) is not just for the election of a leftwing government but for it to transform the state from within the presidency and National Assembly by calling elections to a constituent assembly to draw up a new constitution.

If you are interested in what’s happening with the Greens then this is, as ever, worth your time.
The programme idea is discussed –but the party already has one, Policies for a Sustainable Society? (No longer public on the website.)
A few thoughts on this… 🧵
How do we build the Green Party into an Ecosocialist Party?

no you see this is an advanced version of the joke where the teller lacks a partner and sets up the audience to deliver what they believe to be the punchline but is in fact additional context-sensitive setup which the teller then uses to subvert the expectation that they'd rememb
