... St James's Avenue will soon be in near-continual shadow, and will lose dozens of mature trees. The local residents who believed these words and voted accordingly may feel they are less important than the developers, whose intense lobbying and pressure won the day.
On Thursday evening they voted for an 8-storey block to overshadow the entrance to Victoria Park. In October 2016 @MayorJohnBiggs said: 'The new buildings must be in keeping with the area and should not block out light from neighbouring properties.' But St James's avenue... (2/3)
The Labour Council in Tower Hamlets has let us down on the London Chest Hospital. @MayorJohnBiggs said in October 2016: 'Nobody wants towering blocks of flats in an area of predominantly Victorian terraces and low-rise estates.' Well that's what the Council has approved (1/3)
There have been THREE consultations as Tower Hamlets tries to squeeze this through. But now the developers have changed their plans AFTER the third consultation - meaning that the community has not been properly consulted on the final plans. @MayorJohnBiggs @CllrSirajIslam
It is a cynical game to wear the council down. The plans are totally inappropriate and transgress the Victoria Park Conservation Area. They would permanently harm the area, overshadow neighbouring homes, cut down dozens of trees - all to produce lots of unaffordable housing.
Here's the full letter from dirty @Savills that attempts to blackmail Tower Hamlets planners into approving the scheme with a last-minute change to affordable housing (35%). It makes a mockery of previous financial viability statements and makes a mockery of the consultation.
@Savills and @CrestNicholson are playing dirty at the London Chest Hospital. They have changed their plans AFTER the consultation has closed, and are blackmailing Tower Hamlets Council @TowerHamletsNow by threatening to reduce minimum levels of 'affordable' housing. #contemptible
