I'm so disappointed about this - I objected on behalf of the labour cllrs this time round. Ultimately the cttee had to make a legal rather than a political decision using a broken planning framework. But as a local resident I'm really sad to see this outcome

Myself and former Cllr. @AmyLWGibbs also objected. Thanks to Steve, Chris and Tom Ridge for their sterling effort.
The Labour Council in Tower Hamlets has let us down on the London Chest Hospital. @MayorJohnBiggs said in October 2016: 'Nobody wants towering blocks of flats in an area of predominantly Victorian terraces and low-rise estates.' Well that's what the Council has approved (1/3)
On Thursday evening they voted for an 8-storey block to overshadow the entrance to Victoria Park. In October 2016 @MayorJohnBiggs said: 'The new buildings must be in keeping with the area and should not block out light from neighbouring properties.' But St James's avenue... (2/3)

The Crest Nicholson CEO had a salary of £2,247,213 in 2017, and his second in command, £1,373,482. It's a shame it's not a legal argument to take those personal profits into account when discussing 'viability'.

'Mulberry View' development? where's that then? as opposed to Mulberry Death-by-Crest-Nicholson-Tower-Block development at the old London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green. Hope Tower Hamlets Council reject the current plans. @SaveChest @66000mph @EastEndPSociety @thegentleauthor
We're excited to have recently launched our brand-new 4-bed Orchard show home at our Mulberry View development. The Orchard benefits from an open-plan kitchen-family room, spacious lounge and private garage. For more information about The Orchard, visit bit.ly/2Q1L5EO

There have been THREE consultations as Tower Hamlets tries to squeeze this through. But now the developers have changed their plans AFTER the third consultation - meaning that the community has not been properly consulted on the final plans. @MayorJohnBiggs @CllrSirajIslam

The local community is not against a housing development on the London Chest Hospital site. Genuinely affordable housing is needed. But the scale of this is totally inappropriate. A much better development is possible - one that adds to the area, not harms it @TowerHamletsNow

Note how @Savills are trying to pressurise and threaten the planning officers at @TowerHamletsNow Council. Imagine the benefits to the borough if the local community had such power over and access to decision makers. @MayorJohnBiggs @CllrSirajIslam

@SaveChest @MayorJohnBiggs @CllrSirajIslam Please don't allow Crest Nicholson to cut mature trees across our street on St James' Avenue. Re-planting a few little ones just won't add up - baby trees can't fight climate change or reduce pollution as much as older healthy trees. teapaw.org/DeepsShetty/status/102…

@Savills and @CrestNicholson are playing dirty at the London Chest Hospital. They have changed their plans AFTER the consultation has closed, and are blackmailing Tower Hamlets Council @TowerHamletsNow by threatening to reduce minimum levels of 'affordable' housing. #contemptible
Here's the full letter from dirty @Savills that attempts to blackmail Tower Hamlets planners into approving the scheme with a last-minute change to affordable housing (35%). It makes a mockery of previous financial viability statements and makes a mockery of the consultation.
